Just saw the JT video. It was a joke...a minor one at that. I think the Rosie thing is much more disrespectful that JT.

-----
Co-Sign. I don't like JT but, I think he comments are due to being immature and insecure. Rosie is just mean but, Prince handled are really well and she shut the hell up.

JT was only joking.
Rosie was definately treading personal territory though.

However, I don't feel the least bit sorry for Prince. He's shown his fans and others very little respect public on many occasions.

I remember him appearing on that awful TRL show hosted by Carson Daily, and Carson extended a warm and sincere compliment to Prince saying that during a time of plastic ready-made pop, Prince's music stood the test of time. Prince said, "what?" very rudely to him and asked him to explain. He then explained that Prince's music was essentially great timeless music while other acts were coudln't make the cut. Prince then says, "Well, I don't suppose you would have anything to do with that?" smuggly to his own host. To his own friggen host!

Carson then explains, "I'm like a bartender. I may not like the drinks I'm serving, but it's what my customers want."

Prince got PWNED. It was awkward and embarrassing if you're a fan.

Fact of the matter is, if Prince is going to act like Leona helmsley, he'll get treated like it.

Who cares. My friends and I grew up making fun of each other all the time, you couldn't survive my family if you couldn't take it because we all got talked about. It happened in my neighborhood. You just took it because if you cried you got talked about even more. It's called developing a thick skin. If you crossed the line you either shut the hell up or went to throw a few punches and it was over.

I saw that Rosie episode and she was just being her usual loud and obnoxious self. It wasn't that funny really and Prince told her in his own way she was crossing the line and she did. That ain't nothing compared to the stuff my mother has said about Prince.

JT - sorry that shit was funny. I can't stand JT as a performer (too geeky) but I think he has a calling in the comedy department. At the Euro awards show, when he said that Kanye was out in the parking lot collecting all the awards he didn't win, I lost it. That was funny.

I'm a big fan of comedy and I go to see a lot of stand up and I love celebrity roasts so I believe that Prince can take it. Prince hasn't been innocent in dishing out insults to other people either, so what comes . . . goes.

The Rosie O'Donell "Taffy" bit wasn't that bad - it was a play on TAFKAP which was not his real name anyway. Seriously, what 34-year old man changes his name to a prince and DOESN'T expect some ridicule?

JT joking about Prince's height is another matter . . . it's the same as joking about skin color, looks, or weight IMO. It would've been funny at a concert or aftershow, when Prince was there, but at a formal awards ceremony shake

Don't forget that Prince dressed up as Bryant Gumbel and also played Bambi on the Ellen show . . . that's the same level as what we're talking about . . . so he's not above it.

Really? I'm shorter than Prince and people have been making fun of my height for years, so I don't consider height like skin color unless you're a midget or handicapped or something. Maybe it's different for men.

I wasn't saying they're equal in the "insult" category, but they are in the same class of insults (appearance). None of them are OK in my book.

And a song that he sneezed out in his sleep. It's not even that good.

it's really not that important. Yes Prince showed up late, missed his award show, got made fun of in terms of his height, and when it was all over where did everyone go? To party with Prince! It's all good. Time to move on. cool

It's funny you mention the rosie show. My sister is a producer *tv type) and a good friend at the time of hers was a producer for i believe conan. At the time, he was going to be the special guest for a whole week and after that incident, he canceled the whole thing.

i find it hard to believe conan would book anyone every night for a week and even harder to believe prince would agree to it.

The White Stripes did it for a week on Conan and it was awesome! I don't even like them!

I know we are all probably over the whole JT joke, but I thougt this was interesting.

This was on CJ's Column.

Bringing silly back

Justin Timberlake has given us a new way to discern whether Prince finds height jokes funny.

The chronically unpunctual Prince explained to the media that a traffic jam delayed his arrival at the Golden Globes. (Note to Symbolina: Leave for the Super Bowl when the game starts and you should make it by halftime. Wal-Mart is sending you a GPS, according to its NYC PR office.)

Being tardy for the Globes meant not hearing presenter Timberlake announce that "The Song of the Heart," from "Happy Feet" won the award for original motion pix song.

Timberlake accepted the award for Prince, crouching below the mike in a mock display of shortness.

And then Justin had the nerve to show up at Prince's Globes after-party.

Would that Timberlake (whose ersatz black guy routine is wearing thin in part because I doubt he could actually handle all the societal challenges of being black) have the career longevity of Prince. If Prince collaborates with Justin in the future, we'll all know that Prince is cool with short jokes.

Maybe Prince should start romancing Cameron Diaz to check out Timberlake's sense of humor.

Where has your sense of humour gone? I thought the JT joke was pretty funny. Prince makes jokes like that as well of other people (remember his Ozzy Osbourne dance?). I think he can see the humour in it.

What Ozzy Osbourne dance? eek
