"nothing compares to you" with prince & rosie its the best?

i love this duet on the ultimate collection. his voice goes so deep and sexy and her's is totally awesome!!! i think its the best duet in the world. i used to hate this song cos i thought the cranberrys wrote it and there version is awfull when i heard this my heart lept its just insperational!!! and its got a kick arse sax solo i played it to my dad and he loved it he's into jazz you see. prince just blows me away with the diffrent styles of music he does every song is diffrent. purple rain sends me to another place i cant discribe the feeling when he plays that guitar in my ears.
im i crazy feeling like this?

That is a nice version but I prefer Prince's solo vocals on the 1990 Nude Tour's rendition of the song. For me, it seems even more heartaching and powerful that way.

Sinead's version is the best. I do like the the duet with Rosie though...and the nude tour version. Can't forget where it originally came from either...The Family's take is top-notch too. smile

Agreed, great song. Was there an official solo studio recording done by Prince?

Would love a non-live version done by P.

I haven't heard a studio take with Prince's vocal...there's the demo version of the Family cut, but i'm pretty sure it's St.Paul on vocals...can't remember. confused

Prince made this song his own, instead of Sinead's version, it is opposite. More louder, instant and intense. When u hear Prince lines it works 2 some extent. I mean like i said, opposite.

rosie just cant compare and match this. Her performance doesnt work on so many levels. Its like its a totaly different song. Shes more successful in soul or R & B. But this ballad is laughable with her.

I first heard the song via Sinead. Thank God I've blocked that out and can hear/view Prince, who wrote the song... and think of his voice... .when I think of it. Sinead tainted herself with her antics. The tearing up the picture of the Pope on SNL, her radical BS, referring to Prince as a "midget". She's so far in the past...and I listen to Prince's version often enough it's like she never sang it. Really. Never happened. I just get reminded once in a blue moon she sang it.

I keep saying, I find it funny that what a pop star does should taint being able to enjoy a song for what it is, as if it ceases to be good because it turns out they are not a nice person. If MJ had been convicted of those charges, would that have meant all his past music would suddenly become unlistenable? Not to me, I know how to seperate the two.

As for this version of Nothing Compares 2 U, I hate that there's a bit of unexpected feedback in the song. I can't help feeling he could have found a more polished performance of this song to put on The Hits.

sinead's version of this song is and probably always will remain the best.

the family version is ok. nice. prince's version is just tired and flat neutral
doesn't do anything for me. probably one of the least listened to songs
in my prince collection.

over the last 13 years or so since it was released i probably listened
to that version about 4 times. can't stand it.

i probably heard sinead's version a thousand times since 1991 and it's
still got the power to give me goosebumps. truly magnificent performance
from her.

You're right in stating an artist's behavior doesn't eliminate the fact the individual is or was a talented musician. But where is Sinead and MJ now? For most, the public personna affects how the music is viewed.
Everytime I hear a Carpenter's song, I think of bulimia. I don't WANT to think of bulimia, I don't like being reminded of the emanciated photos of Karen Carpenter....so I change the radio station.

rosie's voice is fantastic in this version she makes it for me. and when prince kind of eggs her on abit i love that. princes voice goes so deep i dont understand how you can say its flat plus the sax solo as i mentioned is incredible sineads to me is flat and boring. i hate it.

Well, Sinead did have a career after, releasing several albums, it's just that they weren't particularly big. As for MJ, he hasn't released any new music since the trial, we'll see where the public puts him when he finally does. But say, look at James Brown, the massive interest in his talent when he died, yet he was in trouble with the law several times and spent time in jail. He didn't seem to treat at least one of his wives very well, but all that didn't stop people appreciating his music.

I prefer the Prince/Rosie version, but I'm not sure if I'm biased, or if it's because I heard it before the Sinead O'Connor version.

I downloaded some BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge stuff, and the Stereophonics have an acoustic version on there, thought that was pretty good as well.
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

I love Sinead's version but I prefer Prince version with Roise. I think Prince and Roise Gaines voices complement each other. I really love the song. It has very powerful lyrics that draws out emotions. Sinead connected to the song. In her video one little tear rolls down her face when she sang "All the flowers that u planted, mama in the backyard all died when u went away." I heared it was because she had a troubled relationship with her mom. I think both versions are very passionate and heartfelt. biggrin

Trouble with the law is one thing - child molestation and tearing up a picture of the Pope is another.

I would fully forgive drunk driving, drugs, divorce, etc. in a musician. They're "LIFE" and bad things can happen that they may or may not have control over. Most good music is written when based on LIFE EXPERIENCE.

HOWEVER - child molestation (or, to be fair, even MJ's "fascination" with children) is something that is just unacceptable. He was probably traumatized as a child (I do believe that), but as a grown man he made his own decisions and he decided to surround himself with children and build an amusement park to facilitate that. BLECH. He deserves to have his career plummet.

Sinead O'Connor had a huge hit with NC2U, but she is technically considered a One-Hit Wonder. And for her One Hit to not even be her song, any references to Prince during that time would surely annoy her.

Didn't James Brown beat up his wife? So you'd forgive spousal abuse?

In the UK Sinead O'Connor first came to fame with the song Mandinka. So she's technically a 2 hit wonder here... biggrin

I think that Sinead's version is weak and lifeless and a disservice to the song.
Some songs should not be redone and she's made a mess of it.
