New Power Soul....An "NPG" project fronted and sung almost exclusively by P.
Uninspired as hell and a letdown, especially after P was supposed to be "free". HE was on autopilot. Wack from beginning to end with the saving grace being "Wasted Kisses". I would also make a strong case for Graffiti Bridge. The only great thing about the album were the P tracks. "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

It made sense, just like it made sense to call C&D just that; that's what he was feeling at that time. I like Emancipation, too, for what it is. Actually I think it is pretty cohesive--less so disc 3 maybe--but that's what's impressive to me about it. The sound holds together pretty well. Still that's just the sound & structure. I know what you're saying. He broke certain of his own conventions--like doing covers, having disc 2 be mostly slow songs, and of course, the sheer size of it as a whole. New Power Soul is a very terrible record.
Disc 2 of the Emancipation set is awful I like C&D more than Rave, but neither they , Graffiti or the Vault are really much cop. All have some good tracks, and all have tunes I heard once and need not hear ever again.

I never heard them but they probally are both attemps at the man trying to rap.

Emancapation II is sappy nonesense.
I'm surprized it was released, I thought he had more brains. DiscIII of this set however, now this I like a lot. "Style" in particular and "the love we make", I like the needle reference. The Vault isn't that bad, the cut I like most I already had though, from that Spike lee film, with the walking bassline.
