I Love "The Vault", so I´d have to choose "Chaos & Disorder", which I´m not THAT fond of...

i thought that the vault was released by warner brothers, not prince.
this came out around the same time as rave did, thats why i thought it was a warner release.
anyway i hate this album, chaos is MUCH better.

It was released by Warners, but it was given to them complete including cover art take-it-or-leave it several years earlier to complete his contract. It was up to Warners when they chose to release it, and they decided to do that almost the exact same time as Rave came out.

I love the Vault - Apart from Sarah and Rest of My Life, the songs are great- they don't really all fit together that well as an album, but I love the jazzy/bluesy organic sound. 5 Women is one of my favourite Prince songs.

Chaos and Disorder on the other hand, I can't really listen to. I listen to a lot of rock/guitar based stuff and would love P to make a great rock album, but I think C&D is pretty weak.

I've converted a few muso types to Prince using the Vault selectively. I wouldn't let them anywhere near Chaos and Disorder.

I forgot about both of these pieces of shit. The question should of read: which is favorite pieces of shit by prince, and can you list them in order from greatestpiece of shit to smallest piece of shit. Here is my list is:

1) Emancipation- because you have a complete box set of shit, consisting of 3 complete discs
2) rainbow children
3) Chaos and Disorder
4) The Vault
5) 3121
6) one nite alone ( Piano version )
7) the Truth

Chaos and Disorder I flat out had a hard time liking .. and still do. In fact, it is the only "released" LP that is NOT a part of my collection.

I think the quality of the songs varies more on C & D , theres some very good songs and some OK songs , whereas everything on The Vault is good . I don't listen to The Vault as much as I have C & D though , so I'd say The Vault is the slightly worse album , purely cos I know theres stuff on Chaos that I really really like whereas The Vault I just put down as a very pleasant listen now and again .

Chaos and Disorder was weak. I rock... did not rock. The album was a mess. Probably his worst album ever.

I actually absolutely LOVE both these albums. People trip way unneccesarliy on C&D and The Vault while not the legendary release it could have been is really quite a fine album

both have ugly artwork, which i think people make a confused association with the music within.

I honestly thin that if Prince had release back during his early career, this album would have been met with critical acclaim. It's a messy fusion of different genres, but so were his earlier albums. This thing is raw, funky, and hard hitting--it's lacking only in that the songs don't sound finished.

I can't say; I haven't listened 2 either album in years; I don't even remember listening 2 each album in full.

C&D was complete filler-trash.

Not me. It was weak regardless of how it was pushed and/or marketed. You can tell it was filler trash because later that year he dropped Emancipation and that blew away C&D with ease.

How come he didn't promote C&D besides the required video and talk show circuit yet he went full blast on Emancipation? Prince knew C&D was filler/contractual obligation to the Warner Plantation, that's why

why would prince purposefully release BAD MUSIC? he has a legacy to protect. he could have done something like lou reed's 'metal machine music' and just recorded two discs of guitar feedback and said "here, merry christmas"...but he didn't. he could have given WB a jacked-up new wave album to end his contract like neil young did, but he didn't.

i think you're judging C&D on every level but the quality of the music.
