The echo?

I have listened to "Pop Life" for years, but I just recently got "Around The World In A Day" (I know it's old, don't laugh at me) and I can't stop honing in on that awful echo. I thought maybe this copy is messed up, so I listened to "Pop Life" on "The Hits" and it has the echo too. I've never noticed that echo before and I love this song, but now I have a hard time listening to it, because the echo drives me nuts...was he recording it in a bathroom? Does anyone hear the echo or do I just have some bootleg copies?

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

It's not an echo. It's mixed differently on the left and on the right. Turn the balance completely to the left or right and you hear the song differently.

I'm sure it's a sound effect that was put in on purpose, I like it!

Yeah, it's strange because I remember my copy on cassette didn't have as obvious an echo effect as the cd or Hits cd. I definitely thought there was a difference. I might have to get a vinyl copy and see if thats as noticeable shrug

Snap

probably depends on the different sound systems you've used to listen to these through? shrug (tape player, cd player, record player, today's surround sound vs. yesterday's stereo, etc.)

I *like* the echo. I miss that trippy period. I miss the girl bros. and Prince making studio magic.

It went from being a cool effect to completely throwing me off the song. It's like it got remastered and became so much more prominent.

you all are funny. The hard panned left/right main vocal echo was one of the first times I thought Prince was creative as a mixer back when this came out.
