If The Ravens go to the Super Bowl will Prince be able to play Purple Rain !?! Way back when the Ravens won their first Super Bowl "Purple Rain" was played on every radio station black, white or whatever after the game. If the Ravens make it this time could a half time song entitled "Purple Rain" be considered to controversial!?! We all know Prince has it planned to work this song into the set. What do you all think ?

That had nothing to do with the Raven's winning. That happened because "Purple Rain" was the shiznit!!

did they win in 1984?
that's like when i first moved to speedway, indiana in 1986 and, bless my little teenybopper heart, i thought everyone was wearing black and white clothes that spring to celebrate the release of "parade". never mind the INDY 500 was going on in my neighborhood.

The Ravens didnt exist in 1984 however when they won the Superbowl in 2001, the city of Baltimore took on the song as an anthem. Headlines read Purple Reign and the song was closely associated w/ the team in Bmore. Radio rocked it for days. Btw, a local TV station (WJZ TV) has a segment theyve done every Monday since forever called Manic Monday. Local groups, offices, and organizations dress up every Monday and sing Manic Monday in a contest. Then they have a Manic Monday Meltdown where they pull everybody together to sing it in a grand finale contest. Its all in good fun. P gets alotta luv in Bmore. If he turned up on the street hed prolly shut the city down.

That's really freaking cool! Now I get the original poster's question. I don't think performing "Purple Rain" would cause controversy but not playing it sure might. So Prince has never done a show Baltimore?

So Prince has never done a show Baltimore? Oh mos def. He comes around every other tour but usually heads down to DC right after. It would really be cool if we could get an after show here but I think the energy level in Choclate City(DC) suits his purposes a little mo betta. But I'll help him turn that mutha all the way out, Go Ravens!

PURPLE REIGN was the big headline, as I recall, when the Ravens won big a few years ago.
Gosh, I miss B'more sometimes. Nice to see the love for Charm City on the Org. Peace!

stick a fork in THIS thread. man, what a wasted CHANCE for the Ravens, i'm so disinterested in what teams make it now.

Well... I don't know. If Prince performed it at half-time, wouldn't be a little disrespectful towards the other team? I mean, the game wouldn't be over yet and people during the Super Bowl are at each other's necks. If the Ravens made it to the Super Bowl and then won, then it would makes sense, (to me), if they played the song.

Forget the Ravens. The term "Purple Reign" should be reserved to the only REAL Purple NFL team-the Minnesota Vikings. Hometown represent. Baltimore and "purple reign"? Hell no, it belongs to Minneapolis--even if the Vikes suck which they often do. [Edited 1/14/07 0:27am] "New Power slide...."
