Prince's influence on u...

"For some being a Prince fan is a way of life; a way of looking at the world; a way of being special. Many Prince fans remain resolutely idiosyncratic and separatist, buyin not only into a musical credo but a lifestyle as well. Prince's message preaches individuality, not collectivity" (used 2)

"A particularly intresting feature of this identification is the way in which fans allow aspects of Prince's personality to spread into their own, either consciously or unconsciously. Not only do they copy him stylistically, but they also copy mannerisms from videos, memorise parts of interviews and repeat them as if they were their own, and model their own likes and dislikes on his...Asked when they became a Prince fan, many reply with a specific time and date, as if recollecting a conversion of almost religious proportions."

"For a good many fans Prince's main influence was that he brought a sense of cool to their lives; showed them how to carry themselves in social situations and how to present a 'public' self..."

What are you're views/thoughts on this?
How does Prince influence you're life?

I'm sure these questions have been asked before, but i'm intrigued to hear others views on this...

I am experienting Prince's influences since many years, but to explain in how, he does influence me..., I don't know to say... oh, if I could! The influence I define as important.

Great question. Prince's influence on me... not 2 worry or be afraid of what other may or may not think. That being different/ myself is cool.
Ironically enough Prince and I have much in common outside of music. That was another factor in me becoming a fan of his. After reading several biographies and listening 2 many of his 80s songs I was like "man, I can relate".

In my opinion, Prince's greatest quality above all remains his courage.

yes You completely described how I have felt as a Prince fan for most of my life!

I can also admit to using Prince lyrics in real life situations, but I also do that with other artists that I feel that I have a certain bond with their music. I have also gone on non-Prince message boards and created what I like to call 'random mass Prince confusion.' hehehe

Like many artists, his music just makes me smile and I can relate to the lyrics of certain songs. It just so happens I like the majority of his music and I don't necessarily feel that way about the music of others...

i agree with that 100%...even if the choices he makes aren't necessarily the best...he has the courage to make those choices and act on them...

..i've got a long way to go, but prince has helped me to overcome a lotta fear...

as far as the musical end of it...he has inspired me as a songwriter..to really say what's on my mind..and he challenges me to not waste words...

Prince's varied music sound, led me to explore many types of music other than his.
As a result, I've developed a genuine appreciation for innovative artists and musicians who refuse to be neatly categorized.

Listening to Prince makes me want to be a better person. He is so dedicated to his art and ususally true to himself, it make me want to work harder and be better. Prince is great!

He also inspired me to seek a deeper and more personal connection with the Creator.

Prince has Propelled me to be more Religious, Strive for the Best, Be a Better Person and Go for It! He also Inspires me to write extremely Explicit Sexual Fantasies concerning him . Somehow I have gone from a girl to sexually Unabashed Woman. He unleashed the Fire Inside of Me. I Love that Man .

great thread!

It may sound a bit pretentious but I think his lyrics and image have caused me to, what has sometimes mockingly been called (by MEN!) 'get in touch with my feminine side'.

Before some of you burn me alive hrmph let me try to explain. Traditionally men control their emotions and don't talk about feelings since they are not supposed( by societal conventions) to have them, while women are emotional. It was the same for me but P's lyrics and image have triggered me to think and speak about emotions, in the end making me aware of them and the effect they can have when they are not outspoken. (ie frustration, anger)

Of cause others, like Bowie, have done the same but for me P was the one who caused this.

Prince is the Only Musician that i buy music on and that i listen to,Being a Prince fan is a way of life for me and i would be lost if i went another way in life and i live, breath Prince.it really hurts when people talk against him on purpose and i don't like those kind of people.he is the only musician i want in my life, and i think that makes me a very special person to be a True Loyal Prince fan.and i love him very much.so being a Prince fan is a total way of life for me.i even have his attitude and ways up and down.

Prince taught me how to become a woman. He changed me from a girl to a woman. He also taught me to be myself and also use my intelligence. He taught me about Respect and Control. He taught me about Love. He guided me in the Right Direction. He showed me the Positive things in Life. He Opened me up and allowed me to express myself and my feelings. Prince made me whole. He made me New. He made me RE-BORN! I will always have much Gratitude for his help.
