I'm sure that this has been commented on before, but here goes:

the album artwork of 1999 actually incorporates "the Revolution," but what I found sort of facinating was the place "where" the revolution is placed -- it is spelt within the in Prince, sort of like he's saying am the revolution. Isn't that sort of cool?

What does the "1" in "1999" look like to you?

who did the artwork? I can find a credit to any particular artist, but it reminds me of some of Prince's sketches that were being auctionedd off on Sotheby's a while ago...does anyone think he may have illustrated this cover? Also, the artwork on the New Power Soul album was attributed to "Parke"...is that another one of his aliases, or is this Parke a real person?

the "parke" in question is steve parke, an artist who did lotsa work 4 him throughout the '90s and probably a little around now (?)...of course, save 4 trc and all this other mess....who knows who does the art 4 him now....i sure wish i knew who drew those gawd-awful ppl on the npgmc site, cuz i wanna slap 'em.

somebody should post a link to the cover art for reference. I remember the cover, but not the specifics.

The folks at sleevographia have most of his artwork posted with great scans (well not great, but you get my drift). And in response to "what does the 1 look like -- it looks like my 6th string! Well, actually, mine looks a wee bit better!

yeah, it looks more like a floor lamp or a mushroom to me. The "N" is a pair of pants and a crescent moon.

1999: I always thought the 'eye' part in 'Prince' looked like a football.
That cover is a lot of fun to look at. Some very interesting things can be found. How about the female genetalia at the bottom of the 'E'?

A friend of mine got the 1999 tatooed on his arm and only after it was on there realized what the "1" was!

I love that album cover. Wouldn't it be funky to have a giant poster of it so we could look at its many little intricacies easier?

The cover that Prince designed for the 'Gett Off' single is strikingly similar in style to the '1999' album cover.

Although maybe a reference to the P funk covers, to me the 1999 cover was as good as the music in it. All the little signs on that cover brought you into Princ'es world. From the Rude boy button to the studs on his jacket, and his eyes. It was total prince and really took a second and third look to really take it all in. Just like the album took many listens with headphones on to hear all the parts. Still one of the best pieces of music ever released by anyone!

I especially like the pants in the N, the guitar in R and the little fellow climbing the stairs in the E. Excelent cover and the album contains some mighty fine music!!

What a Fantastic Sexy Cover. The artwork was indeed drawn by Prince and I think we all Know what the 1 in 1999 is. Anybody asking is just a Pig and looking for some Hidden Meaning to everything. So, it's not a Mushroom it's a Penis o.k. so . God ,what Dirty Minds and Prince said if you like the Older stuff better than the Newer Clean stuff that says more about You than Him. The Best album in my Opinion . My Favorite. Excellent tunes. It was a Prelude to Purple Rain.To Love Prince is to Love his music then and Now. Old Prince to the New Prince. I say he looks Better now than ever and Never has his music been better.
