I LOVE me some John Hughes nobody captured teenage angst on film better than him. I'm starting to think he must be a HUGE Prince fan because he also included the song 1999 in Sixteen Candles. How many of ya'll noticed that when the school bus leaves the school in the afternoon that the kids on the bus are whistling 1999 on kazoos in unison??? I liketa died when I figured that out! I might be late mentioning this though cuz I'm sure this has been mentioned before.

there's a Prince song in the background of Weird Science too. Only it's a cover of a Prince song, not the original. I cant recall the track, but I think it happens during the party sequence.

Actually, now that you mention it, Private Joy is also played in Weird Science. I think it's in the scene when they're walking through the mall. And I do believe it's the actual version not a cover. I'm starting to think John Hughes is a lil obsessed with Prince but it's all good. [Edited 1/10/07 20:05pm]

I always wondered why the hell she brought the album to school with her. I mean, it's not like they had a turntable at school to play it on or anything. Maybe she brought it to lend to someone. Andy is a four letter word.

Yeah, I know, but if I remember correctly she was studying the lyrics on the other side of the album sleeve. [Edited 1/10/07 20:12pm]

still the same today, neon blue i could totally relate 2 the ally sheedy character still can btw, the 1st time i saw the 1999 album was when a girl brought it to school, 7th grade we were in this class of 10 or so kids it's was an elective called "i'm okay, you're okay" and we were sharing our favorite albums that day i brought billy squier's don't say no but something about this chick (not too unlike sheedy) and the butterfinger between her legs (that's another story) made me want to own this album too [Edited 1/11/07 1:57am]

They have some sort of music player in the library because they play it in the dance scene. Plus, she's gonna need something to listen to when she runs away to Afghanistan, what better record than 1999? [Edited 1/11/07 5:46am]

Get out!!! It sounds JUST like the verse: "I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if I go too fast." I ALWAYS sing along when that part comes on. Try it, it fits perfectly. Maybe that's where Prince "borrowed" it from. I'ma have to dust off my DVD and confirm this. [Edited 1/11/07 11:38am]

There is a poster hanging in his room in the "Goonies"(The Revolution poster with all the bandmembers posing, that came with the PR album), its at the part where he says "I cant wait to get out of here" right before he pounces on his big brother while his brother is lifting weights. Right before they leave to go on the "treasure hunt", at the very begining. I have the movie as well. Ahh, the classic John Hughes years, i love these films, and they all had pretty good soundtracks, i really like "Pretty in Pink" by the psychedelic furs. These fils were released when i was in my not quite teen years so i kinda grew up with them, they dont make em like they used to.
