I didn't think 'The Dance' or 'The Word' were safe at all.

As for the JW influence being the reason Prince has turned 'safe', 'The Rainbow Children' was Prince's 'most JW' influenced album and that was NOT safe at all.

Prince wants to appeal to a larger mainstream audience at the moment.

Prince isnot 'playing it safe', he's playing it mature.
Prince does an excellent job with the lyrics in a tasteful, mature, but yet sexy way.

If i was 2 take the Freudian view i'd have 2 say that Prince is trying 2 be his daddy...despite all his success and achievements he can only ever feel successful if he is like John L Nelson...check out his style, his dress and his way of acting...it's like Mr nelson snr's come back from the dead...anyone's who knows the opera by mozart...Don G neutral iovanni will relate

if P made the album we want and probably the album he really wants to make it wouldn't sell. Slock and polished sells, i wonder if he looks back to the Gold period when he nearly went broke and it just made him a whole lot more cautious?.

Stay clear and beware of anybody who has a problem w/ you for not being exactly the way you were 20 years ago. People fear change.

The name change, the slave thing, all his 90s antics weren't "edgy." They were the ravings of an imbecile. It was a decade long tantrum from a pop star whose commercial instincts were in decline.

Prince has finally rehabilitated his sense of mainstream appeal and has rediscovered the will to engage a mass audience again. If he's learned anything one hopes he now realizes how precious and fleeting the moment in the spotlight is.

Furthermore, since having earned his precious freedom from his record label, he's got no one but himself to blame when his records tank. And his first few releases did. He needed the nostalgic goodwill generated by his Hall of Fame induction to launch his current comeback. If he has any perspective at all about the business--and honestly, the jury's out on this one--he will nurture this newfound popularity and not abandon it like he did post-Purple Rain.

BINGO !!!!
Now...this POST IS OVER !

Geez.. the man has been making music for close to three decades now... and people complain why he can't sound like he used to...? or why don't he push the envelope like he used to..? etc etc etc

The problem is that too many people are too high and mighty on thier own personal taste that they cannot phantom that thier musical taste may not be shared by every one. Even if the majority.. still not every one. I personally found albums like Musicology and 3121 as refreshing as anything I have heard from prince. Maybe not the ground breaking.material of some albums in the past... but not every album has to be.

And when you think about it... some of those albums of yesteryear which were so 'revolutionary' and cjhallenging at the time they were released... really didn't always go over well... esp with the general public... and some even with his so called fans.

How many fans went.. "what the F**K?" the first time they heard 'Around the World in A Day'.. or were lost permanently after 'Parade'? and if that didnt get them gone 'Lovesexy' definantly sent them on thier way.

This may be a surprise .. but some fans actually prefer the more accesible Prince... the not so eccletic Prince who just knows how to make some good funky azz music you can bob your head or shake your azz to... instead of the one dropping deep 'experimantal boundary pushing BS like 'the Rainbow Children (although I did enjoy the album for what it was)

Prince set standards mant fans try to hold him too... weither it is to be ground breaking and revolutuonary... or just plain funky. But when compared to other artist.. you must realize... Prince has made more music and has set higher standards than other artist. And he is no longer the young revolutionary he once was... he got all the revelution out of his system a decade and a half or so ago. Now.. he's a matured artist whiojust makes GOOD MUSIC... maybe not as 'innovative' as in the past... but still better good REAL music than most artist nowadays.

im a bit confused...the author of this thread is asking if you think if prince's music is too slick or polished yet you post a rant attacking those who have a different opinion then you...don't those folks have the right to share their opinion? and what is your opinion of the actual question posed?

after all, we all have the right to judge the music...its the judging of each other thats unnecessary.
