Dark is one of his best ballads. So much better than the Crystal Ball version in my opinion. I love the bluesy guitar at the end as well - very cool!

Papa is an absolute gem also.

Agree!! Dark is pure brilliance. It captures an angry and depressive mood. It's truly underrated here on the org. The CB version is not dark at all and sounds way too overproduced. It's a perfect example of how sometimes P does not trust his best instincts. He could do a whole album of moody, "dark" and bluesy ballads.

Great album, one of my favorites, actually.

Come, Space, Pheremone, Dark, Solo, and Letitgo are all gems.
I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

Yes. I love space. It's beautiful. I don't listen to all the songs--I just don't feel 'em all but I like the dark, sort of S & M theme (or whatever it is). Solo is great, too. But I am not surprised that some folks hate it.

Wasn't there an original tracklisting posted on here a while back? I think it included The Most Beautiful Girl..., Endorphinemachine and New World on it.

Can anyone post that again?

Come is a flawed masterpiece in my mind. Even it's weaker moments are enthralling and far more exciting than most of his post-90s output.

I love the trippy dance remix of Come as well... that is very cool!

Funny thing is that Prince seems to prefer the CB version , as stated in the liner notes...just goes to show you...

"Come" is a cool 'concept' album with the between song interludes referring to 'coming or dawning into a new spiritual revolution.' The spiritual emphesis is very much like that of "Lovesexy" where the spiritual ties in with the sexual. I love one of the "Come" outakes "Strays of the World" on the "Crystal Ball" set. I have a bootleg remix of the title song "Come" where it starts more club/dance and then morphs into original version toward the climatic end. I also obtained the video for "18 and Over" on a bootleg DVD (another "Come" outake). "Papa" and "Space" are my favorites on the album.

It's a good album, not great. Extremely dark and often unfocused but I love Dark, Letitgo, Race, and Space. The title track goes on forever, Solo is just too melodramatic for my blood, and Pheremone is wrecked by inane lyrics. You could definitely tell that some of these were sitting around in the vault and the bitter marketing campaign for the CD still leaves an aftertaste. It's a middle of the pack for me.

Middle of the pack? Yet your handle is taken from the title of one of the tracks?

Big fan of this album - top 5 - and of this era of his music...the whole experience!

Come is awesome...love those 10min extended jams.Lickin' U inside, outside, all sides , up and down,
With my tongue in the crease, baby I go 'round
When I go down..
only P could sing this and make it sound that good.
Space, I played to death...love the violins at the end of the track.
Pheromone - great lyrics and a killer snare....all my vital signs go up a couple of notches
Loose!...great on h/phones.
Papa - Some1 earlier said he lost his humour on this Album....Dont abuse children or else they will turn out like me.
Race...some of his best harmonies.
Dark...one of the better slow jams of his
Solo...just p and a harp along with some thunder....even though he didnt write the lyrics...one of his better songs....when he ends the song with solo...my name is no-one.
Letitgo...great track...sounds great, great lyrics, great sound. the remix with Dorothy PArker beat is awesome.
Orgasm...well....what can i say bout this....made me laugh at the end how he says "I love u".

For me. this is def one of his more personal/ introspective albums and that comes out in the music....not the sort of disk you put on when friends are around who dont have as much appreciation for P and his stuff. This album is 13 years old...the music still sounds great.

To me "Pappa" was a stand out, i mean it kind of gave a peak into Prince's childhood,u know like what it might have been like for him growing up, some of the lyrics may not be acurate but with Prince u can never be certain. "Dark" spoke to me in volumes, because if anyone had been in love or had been a long relationship with someone and it ended on a sour note, you can relate to the song. The songs "Come & Space" go hand in hand to me, like the song "Come" is all foreplay the talking (seduction) at first, then towards the end of the song its all Sex, the on the last few measures of the song, it builds into a climaxtic ending, then"Space" is like the Pillow talk that u have afterwards{Quote the lyrics, "I've always been one to hide my feelings, but baby u blow my mind", or " I've often dreamed of us cumming on planet Mars". Thats Prince at his best. yes

Fantastic record. If this is "contractual filler" or "middle of the pack" then point me in the direction of his stuff thats better than this.

It's old enough to stand up.
It's got a badass rhythm section.
It's played with real feel ( no machines)
There is actually good tunes on it.
Their is no pandering to "latest styles" or any such BS

from a fanboy perspective I dig the art too.

Only SOTT and TRC are better for me

When I went to Barcelona a couple of years back I stood on the very spot where he's stood for the cover and rang Therapy up just to tell her where I was.

There's something about the crisp production on Come that I love. From start to finish, there's a wonderful polished feel to it that normally I'd rather not hear on a P album. It just seems to suit the whole album and makes it work like a concept.

I would rate it okay. It isn't a terrible album but it has a dark overtone to the whole thing so it kind of drives me off. So I don't really listen to it too much. Letitgo, Loose and Space is a bad ass songs though.

I did. I understood back then it was supposed to be just a side-project album, but now in retrospect it beats the hell out of his previous four full-length albums.

I used to listen to it with headphones, lying on the bed half asleep. It was always a great experience, altough it probably did give this very teenager a pretty screwn-up view of sexuality. confused

Not really a side-project per-se. Prince originally wanted to release Come and Gold (the earlier title for TGE) at the same time. There was talk of releasing both under the prince moniker, then the idea shifted to putting out Come under "Prince" and Gold under prince . There was also talk of songs from both projects being released as double album entitled The Dawn. Ultimately, Come wound up appearing as a contract filler, since by the time it was released Prince had lost all interest in it.

Hello,

I liked most of the songs on the Come album. I did not like poem intros to the
songs, they got in the way of the music. I had heard some of the songs before
the album came out so I had heard a mix of the Come/Gold period stuff so I was
looking forward to the new material.

I did thing the Come song was too long at the time it came out and I did not
care for Orgasm.

Someone a while ago created a "single" idea for Come if it had been released back in its day.
I could almost believe it wasa possibilty because of "18 & Over". "18 & Over" is similar to "Violet the Organ Grinder". "18 & Over"
is based on "Come" and would have fit with a 12" CD of Come remixes.
Or be a natural B-side. So the idea of a Come single seems plausible to me.

I liked the Come album. I think it could have been better. It does seem
in retrospect that maybe Prince was trying to get out of the Warners deal then.
If Gold came out at the same time as was proposed it would have been better.
The Prince album has weaker material, The prince has better material.
Maybe it would have been better to have the Gold album and not Come at all.
But that could be another thread.

In 1993-94 it seemed all the hype was building for the Gold album and in
1994 Come came out and Gold came out in 1995 a year too late. I think if
Gold came out in 1994 it would have done alot better.
