How you ever converted somebody into a Prince fan?

My wife likes alot of his stuff now. Some songs she had heard over the years but didn't even know were by Prince or an associated artist.

I used to go knocking on people's doors, asking 'em if they've accepted Prince as their personal purple savior.

I tried 2 convert my best friend at the time, constantly, playin Prince tracks every week at his place. All i heard from him was, 'sounds gay', 'he sings like a women', 'looks gay' ,ect (all the Prince sterotypes u could think of).

Then in '1992' Prince was tourin Europe, and my home town, in the UK. He said lets buy some tickets, so we got 2. Then in summer we joined the 50,000 crowd and saw him. I mean it was the first time me and my friend saw Prince, but even still remains 2 day, an unforgetable experience.

After the concert, my friend was it total awe, and even now and at the time, said dats the best gig he saw.

So if u get a hard time from a friend, tell them not 2 judge, untill they get the Prince experience!

I often play music in my classroom, (clean lyrics and instrumentals, of course) and I had a student who's a musician. He was willing to listen, but was lukewarm- very into whatever was the "flavor of the moment", which the year he graduated was R. Kelly. We would argue back and forth constantly....

Well, long story short, he graduated in '04- "Musicology", so we would battle about the "lesson" of musician vs. technician with today's artists. For a "thank you present" after graduation, his parents gave me a ticket to the 2nd night of the NJ show. I went with him and his Dad- his 1st Prince show. That boy was jumping up and down screaming like a girl, hugging me, and was practically in tears. excited
He was blown away by Prince's musicianship and the acoustic set reduced him to mush- purely because he thought I was just gushing over some "old guy" all that time.

Since then he has gone back and bought as much Prince as he could get his hands on, and when I went to the Philly show, I looked over, and there he was!!! The boy is hooked! He has also changed his own approach to music, and is very successful right now. nod

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

I was going to agree with you and say that I was the exposer but Prince's music made them fans but then I thought about it.

I really was an exposer since on a few of those occasions, I do recall being naked at the time. wink So I just can't give the music all the credit! lol

I converted a coworker. I made him a bare-bones, generic greatest hits CD and he loved it. No ballads, no gospel or rap. I picked what I thought HE would like first . . .

Basically he got this:

Dirty Mind
When You Were Mine
Controvery
1999
Little Red Corvette
Let's Go Crazy
When Doves Cry
I Would Die 4 U
Purple Rain
Raspberry Beret
U Got The Look
I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man
Partyman
Batdance
7

He loved it and could not stop playing it for a long time. He's branched out into enough Prince material to fill a few more CDs.

Before someone posts a smart-ass remark about those songs not fitting on a "CD" - what I made him was actually an iTunes playlist that I renamed so it would show on his iPod as its own "CD".

Yes. I'm completing the process currently - I'm graduating them from "sort of interested but mainly because I think he's hot" to "Oh my God where can I buy the entire record collection?". lol

I recently converted my best friend.

She didn't really know much about Prince--like me she started as an MJ fan--and had only seen "Purple Rain" when she was REALLY little.

I had PR and invited her to my house to watch it. So we're watching it and she's getting into it, saying Prince looked cute and all.

When Prince started singing "Computer Blue" topless, I think the world kind of stopped for her. Eyes bulged, mouth agape. She looked at me and was like, "Damn, he his SEXY!"

And it's been snowballing ever since.

Prince turns people into Prince lovers.

I'm just the messenger. And I tell many.

I like to point out what a prince(and michael) wannabe justin is to remind people of the greats

I tried to get my little sister to listen to prince cause she loves mj off like I do and thought she'll also like prince, but when I showed her she's got the look and kiss, she was like "THIS was mj's rival??? ugh" hahah she liked the let's go crazy video though, guitars are her weakness wink I wonder what it would have been like if she was a 15 year old in the 80's biggrin

What a strange choice of words, converted turned out to be, quite cult like.

Prince is always singing about a commet that's going to take him and his followers away. Oh no, that was about the halebop.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

^ I know what you mean, I'm not fond of the term "converted" either though I know it's just the language of diehard fans in general

Howdy,

Glad to see you've recently been converted smile

You'll find 'The Most Beautiful Girl in the World' on the 'Gold Experience' album. Don't know if you're a Brit or not but you'll probably find it abit of a b**** to get hold of, depending on where you live. I know it took me forever to get hold of them. You may be best resorting to ebay, amazon, play that sort of thing.

My friends are all v. anti- Prince, his 'gay' being a main factor, which I try to tell them is shite but they have none of it, tbh I know they say it to wind me up. lol

One mate of mine though I happened to accidently convert, who was also of the opinion of his 'gayness'. He just came round one day and I happened to be playing songs of my pooter and he heard 'U Got The Look' & 'Get Wild' I believe and was in awe, demanding to know who it was, I told him and now his bought afew Prince albums. I feel I have helped the cause! pray

My boyfriend didn't even know who Prince was when we met 10 yrs ago. But since I introduced him to P's music he has grown to appreciate it. My boyfriend is a musician himself so he knows good music and he knows P's music is good he can't deny it. He tries to say he is not a fan around other people because he thinks P is gay but he knows he is one he has enjoyed every show we have been too. When we went to Vegas I was only going to the Friday show and he is the one that convinced me to go to both biggrin

i am a devoted converter. im pretty persistant too. and yes... it doesnt take much after they listen to a few tracks.. or i drag em to a concert (then i cant drag them away!! haha!!)..

ive heard things like:

'wow... his voice is so deep and sexy, i had no idea!'....

'shit... he can play the guitar well.. i knew he did.. but oh wow.. he's nearly better than doyle! (eric claptons guitarist)'

'i cant stop singing his songs, theyre so catchy!'

'oh my god!! hes really cool... can i burn your cds?'

etc etc...

ive been able to convert everyone close to me... except one friend.. who still thinks hes grose.

oh well, its her loss.
