The three most exciting Prince preformances you have seen on film What are the three most exciting, memorable, fantastic preformances of Prince's you were able to see on film? You know the kind you want to show your friends as a means to explain to them why you think he is the most fantastic entertainer in your lifetime? The kind of preformances that you think if not at least would be able to convert them, would be able to allow them to admit that he is a VERY talented preformer.
For me it is... Prince and Sheila E doing Love Bizzare in her Romance 1600 tape...amazing, amazing, crazy fun...I wish I could have experienced this live! It's gonna be a beautiful night on Sign of the Times...omg! This has always been electricity! Even though I know I read that they had to pretty much redo at PP and it might not have been live in Europe?? Oh well you CAN'T tell because the preformance is so engaging. Baby I'm a Star on the Live in Syracuse...wow!I just loved how into it everyone got and how Prince seemed to just improvise and conduct the band AND the audience! Prince is one great entertainer...not only is his music unbelievable, he is a fantastic storyteller in his lyrics, he is gifted with instruments and arranging songs...but he can dance and create a fun atmosphere with his live preformances too. WOW!

Any of his performances are fine with me ... but here's 3.
1. American Bandstand Performance -- Yeah ... the dancing was ... um, but he was so cute and sexy! 2. 'Motherless Child' Performance -- Guitar is awesome! [Posting of Prince YouTubes is NOT allowed on this site for legal reasons snip - luv4u] 3. Lovesexy Tour Perfomance of 'Purple Rain' -- He looked a bit deranged (yet hot and sexy), but the performance was superb!

This is DAMN hard to pick just three.
"Housequake" from the SOTT movie "America" (well, from the video itself) "Partyman" from the Nude Tour. Oh boy, can't I list a few more...please!? I also liked the "Daddy Pop" performance where he did that weird wheelbarrow dance with someone holding his legs.

1) His performance of "My Guitar Gently Weeps" on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was breathtaking. I watch it over and over still.
2) The video of "America". The long version when he does a drum solo. That whole performance was so energetic. 3) "Baby I'm A Star" on the Grammy's in '85. Yeah I know he smacked himself in the face with the mic, but he more than made up for it. It was a huge party on stage.

On film? 1- A Lovesexy show from Europe that was professionally shot.
2 - the While My Guitar solo 3 - the '87 MTV Awards show where he performed Sign O The Times and Play In The SUnshine. [Edited 1/3/07 21:59pm] the music knows what your motives are when you are making it

Electric Chair on SNL.
He looked great, the band was great, and his guitar playing was really good too. Old boy looked like an angry drag queen seducing her audience, not with dirty jokes and flamboyant one liners, but with the boogie!

My favorite performances are (in no particular order):
1. I could never take the place of your man (from the Sign of the Times Movie) Both Prince and the bath sound so happy, yoyfull and spirited during this performance, the arrangement is such an improvement on the album-version, i love Princes vocal delivery, and the guitarwork is (of course) great. 2. America (long version of the videoclip) Alltough the revolution ist as tight and skilled live as the band Prince toured with in 1987 and 1988, this is compensated by the pure enenergy and joy created during this performance. The electronic beat on this version sounds great and driven, the hornriffs are tremendous, the saxophone solo by Eddie M. is one pure blast of energy, buts its especially Princes performance that is breathtaking: the way he walks on the stage, his little dances, the interaction with the public (pulling faces, throwing records in the audience) is just so... how should i explain it? spirited? I mean, i have never seen another artist or even Prince himselve 'shine' so much on stage! 3. The Ride (version on Live at the Alladin-DVD): alltough he maybe performed better guitarwork while playing this song on other occasations (it seems like he is playing his digital Lovesexy-guitar here, that gives him less room to put nuances into the playing), it is still splendid guitarwork. But what is so great about this performance IMO is his vocal delivery: his improvising, timing and phrasing during this performace is somewhat proof to me that Prince seems to have grown as a live singer in the last years. Because there of course are more great moments, i have decided to complete a top 10. 4. Reflection (acoustic version with Wendy Melvoin on the Tavis-Smiley show) 5. The Cross (Lovesexy-concert in Dortmund, spirited almost manic delivery) 6. Play in the sunshine (SOTT-movie, cheerfull, uplifting, full of energy) 7. Dinner with Dolores (subtle version on Today show with Eric Leeds on flute) 8. When you were mine (Springsteen/Born to Run-like version, Lovesexy Dortmund) 9. Everlasting Now (great rendition of this song during the Jay Leno-show) 10.Its gonna be a beautifull night (One of his best live jams ever, SOTT-movie)
