Drum machines and live???

when prince is paying live in the 80's why did it never sound like the drums were really being played??? it always sounds like a drum machine to me

he must've done more than that.

esp during the jams when they'd start and stop and do random # of "hits"....

sometimes he would start and stop patterns. but i wonder if sometimes he was playing the snare itself using a pad to trigger the linn.

Because his music was heavily based on drum machine in the 80's, I think it was to keep the sound of the studio recordings live
