Does P have a number 1 in your all time fave album list or is there someone else at number 1? it's really strange , i'd class myself as being 100% hardcore, followed him for 20+ years. got everything released, seen him 30 times live, been to Paisley Park, hugged him twice! etc YET as i dscover more seriously classic albums the less inspired Princes' albums sound. Prince live has NO competition BUT on his albums he only shows glimpses of what he is capable of, especially on Guitar. Thus far i'd be hard pushed to have him in my top 5.
How about y'all?. | |

My favourite album of all time is Purple Rain. Radiohead's OK Computer is an oh so close number two. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

What albums are you referring to? Which ones do you think are better.

it's difficult to say, because i'd say purple rain is my #1 favorite album ever, but i'm so burnt out on it that i rarely listen to it from beginning to end anymore. so is it no longer my #1 favorite, or is it just not my #1 favorite of NOW? because if the latter is most valid, it may never be my "now" favorite ever again...not that i can predict such things.

Heh, yeah, I have the same problem. The albums I've always loved most are the ones I listen to least these days. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I don't believe in such things. Life changes all the time. However, if I were to really spend too much of my time thinking about such sillyness. I'm sure it would be someone else. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I like music so much I don't have a top 1. Closer to a top ten. I do think P is up there with either lovesexy or Black album. Christian Zombie Vampires

I don't really know. I love music a lot, and have a wide variety of things that I listen to. I would say that TRC is in the top 5, but I love other things by other artists as well... "Love Hurts. seriously there's too many out there i.e Santana 3 [just got it and it has the sound of joy without ego], Miles D -'Tribute to Jack Johnson' [press play and loose yourself, P J Harvey -'stories from the City'[simply incredible], The Beatles [The White Album], James Brown [Pick any from 67 -73!], Becks 'Guero'[the album i wish Musicology would be!], Jimmi [Pick any of the first 3]etc, etc, etc. I really feel that P's talent has at time been lost in the horrible cliche' of Rock, pop and soul' mixed onto 1 album which leads to several varieties of the same thing if that makes sense?. It's now becoming too predictable i.e the next album will probably have a 'Damn u', a Fury, a 'The Work just like many he has done before. What makes the other artists so great is their focus and mastering and innovation of a style i.e. Bowie doing Ziggy. Sorry i'm rambling , bottom line is that there's a big ole world of music out there and i really think P has yet to match the masters on 1 Full CD, he only brings it together and kicks the ledgends asses live.

oh yeah i agree with u hey i love it too but in the great scheme of things it's little more than an excellent collection of Pop songs and no more of a leap than D&P, Symbol , TGE etc i.e. solid, enjoyable but artistically just O.K.

really?? i really am not trying to be an arse , but how can an album you have owned for months be your favourite? i am really just curious to know. i assume you own all Prince albums?? and i know it is only my point of view, but i wouldn't say it was anywhere near a lot of his stuff, like i said it is only my oppinion, that would be near the bottom of my Prince list, i am just really interested to know. what was your fave before 3121 was released??

How about y'all?. This is a very cool thread, but people on this site r a little blinkered. Music is always a very personal thing, but all said, Purple rain might well b a number 1 4 me. INFIDELS from dylan is also a top album

I never really considered it b/c in my mind I always seperate Prince from the rest of my collection...he's in his own category...
I don't think Prince would get the #1 spot. It would go to George Michael's Listen Without Prejudice, I think. But then again, Lovesexy is pretty close. My favorite Prince song, 17 Days, is definitely not my all around favorite song though. (That's a tie b/t Heal the Pain-George Michael and You Send Me-Sam Cooke.) The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I see your point. I listen to a lot of different things from different genres, depending on my mood, so it's hard for me to say that one person's work is my favorite of all time. "Love Hurts. I haven't exactly compiled a "Top-10 All Time" favorite album list...but at first glance I'd say that 5 out of 10 would be Prince albums. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
