I think you're right. I think a major part of the Prince legend is how often he changed and how broad his musical spectrum is. To be honest, the "Minneapolis sound", as cool as it might be, is something those in the Prince community are familiar with, but that's it.

1.Sign o the times
2.Lovesexy 3.The Rainbow Children. That is the order of Prince albums (of all his albums) for me at the moment. SOTT is my pick of fav albums of all time....def my deserted-island album. I had this on tape and listened to it on my cassette walkman. I still remember the moments during the listening to this masterpiece when i "found" each of the songs. where i was, who i was with. Each song has its moment and memory. LS - I was floored by this. Still am. Everything is perfect on this. Every note, every sound, every beat, every sigh and every scream. Sits just behind SOTT. TRC. I have been listening to this constantly since it came out. Its one of those surprise albums. I was not following his music career at the time and didnt know about this untill i saw it on the shelf at the store. The music is amazing on it. I had to get past the religious context of the album...which I have. Each song is superbly written, and as most have said earlier, one of his most inspired works.

SOTT, to me, is Prince's finest work ever. Lovesexy is an amazing spiritual journey that really welcomes you in (with arguably some of the best Prince guitar work on CD). TRC is also amazing - but it's more "religious" than "spiritual". It's more informative and cautionary than it is liberating and welcoming. Easily his most focused work since TGE. Interesting comments. Why don't you list 'em all, in order of preference. I'd be interested inseeing the outcome.
