I just heard on the radio that Prince plans to do a tribute to James Brown during the Superbowl performance.....

Well OK, but hes only allowed to do ONE song, (or medley) and then back to his origional material.

How else will he get new fans?
No matter the ©️, Paisley Park "official can never ™️ prince. He gave that to us verbally on Oprah in 1996. You can't take prince away from us, corporate. I mean O ( + >

He doesn't need any new fans. They will be wanting him to sound like all the other bullshit artists on the radio. He needs to do a performance for the old and current fans and throw the finger to the rest of the world.
Andy is a four letter word.

Not a good idea,

1: Prince is not a good James Brown style dancer
yes he is (and a better one than MJ imo) => Baby I'm A Star performance during the PR tour concert in Detroit

2: Songs inspired by JB ie Possessed & Musicology are very good but weak in comparison
and Sexual Suicide?
3. He's taking the spotlight off himself in a major setting ...better 2 praise JB in interview & concert...this da Prince show y'all...this aint da James Brown wake.. neutral

Graycap23, when I make a prediction on what I think he's going to play it's just for fun. I am really excited by the SB performance, the exposure will be great. No one and I am sure that includes P cares what most of us think anyway so what the harm? You know your one of my favorite post makers so relax and let us daydream. No foul here. JB nod, definitely.

You're kidding, right?

Prince is both a living tribute 2 JB, Funk, and music in general, and an individual expression of all of the above, plus some.

How can U say "he's not a good style James Brown dancer"? Do U remember 1984-1986?

There R far 2 many musical examples 2 list, that would substantiate Prince's particular feel on Drums, Bass, Guitar, and Voice 2 "validate" his Funk, and musical sense of Funk history.

Anyway, if there's any living soul that can do justice 2 James, it's Prince, and U should know this.

I think the tribute would be great, as U must remember, he's ALWAYS Prince, and if U R longing 4 some of Prince's songs, U will likely get them 2.

Basically, I just hope he plays some Funk guitar, and of course, some blazin' lead guitar, 2 shake the entire stadium, and wake Muggs up 2 a legend and talent they might not know fully about.

I guess that's all 4 now.

OH. Another thing. U didn't mention one of the greatest James Brown styled Prince offerings: "The Work"... Try 2 deny that one.

basically...hell, when the brotha breathes it's more or less a tribute to james brown. lol

whilst browns influence on prince is great, i dont think that its any larger than slys, hendrix etc... i feel with the sad death of jamews brown, people will begin to give him god like status... inventor of everything from funk to the mobile phone

i think jame's influence is waaaaay first and foremost in prince's output, though the other influences are certainly important and apparent.

You all are blowing this all out of proportion.. Halftime shows are at least 30 minutes long and doing one song for James Brown is not going to take up an entire half hour and he would have more than enough time to perform any new crappy song (probably another ballad LOL) he has in store for us as well as perform Purple Rain or Let's Go Crazy.. When Michael Jackson did the halftime show he did at least 3 or 4 songs if I can recall.

I don't want Prince to do that at all! I mean I'm gonna be tuning in to hear the oldies or some new stuff, not "Living in America" or "It's a Man's World".

I've read that normal half-time intermissions are normally 12 minutes long, but the Superbowl is double that, so say 24 minutes. But then you have the tv advertising spots, one each side of the half-time show I think, so that cuts down the time even further. When the Rolling Stones did it, for example, they only had time for 3 songs which lasted 13 minutes. MJ's Superbowl in '93 where he mimed to a few hits lasted about 12 minutes. So I think Prince will have somewhere between 12 and 14 minutes long, not half-an-hour.

i think stevie is up there in his influences, but i've always thought of prince as being a bit obsessed with JB. shrug
