im sorry this is kinda not gonna happen...I am a fan of Prince but noone can ever be the "new Godfather of Soul"...you become the Godfather once, you originate things once and its over...he can never be the Godfather of Soul because there is no other and he is dead...can Prince do something without being compared to someone else

That's right...there is only one "Godfather of Soul" and his name is James Brown, nobody can top that, and just like there will never be another "Prince" and I am a long-time Prince fan, nobody can take that title away from James Brown and even Prince would probably tell you that. James Brown is and will always be the "Godfather of Soul" 4 ever.

Can we just let Prince be Prince. He doesn't need any title, his music is all that we need. Just like there was only ONE James Brown, there will only be ONE Prince. I know we have a lot of love for both of these men and let's just love them for all they have given us.

I know you probably didn't intend any disrespect in posting this but it's not proper.

There can only be ONE Godfather of Soul , and that is Mr.James Brown, Soulbrother Number One , and even Prince would tell you that.

Besides, why would Prince even need a title like that with the name he´s already got ? He´s PRINCE, the one and only, that name alone is so unique, it´s his real name, and he´s much , much more than a soul or funk musician.

The title " hardest working man in showbiz " is a title well deserved by ( and only reserved for ) Mr. James Brown but I think there´s also no doubt that Prince is, was, and always will be more hardworking than anybody in showbiz , considering his huge output, his discipline and his mercurial swiftness. That doesn´t mean he should take that title from Mr. James Brown....because those titles are part of what James Brown was about....they´re part of his name, his identity.

Please let´s try to show a bit more tact and respect and let´s also respect the feelings of those who are grieving and mourning ( and I´m sure Prince is , like many of us, among those).

Rest in Peace Mr.James Brown..the Godfather of Soul and the hardest working man in showbiz until the very end. ( He was still making plans for his New Years Eve show while hospitalized with pneumonia...show some respect !)

Prince is cool, but even he wouldn't wanna mess with that!

There is but one Godfather of Soul and that is Mr. James Brown! (Bow your head and raise your fist when you say his name!)

That being said, Prince can not and will not be named Godfather of Soul!

However, the legacy of soul and funk that Mr. James Brown (by now, you know the drill) spent his life blessing this world with, is up for grabs and there is but one man capable of picking up where Mr. James Brown (just do it!) left off and honoring his memory by continuing to bless this world with pure soul and funk that would truly make the Godfather proud...and that man is Prince!

I agree that Prince deserves the title (if there has to be a new Godfather)now but christening him with it a week after James' death is kinda like marrying somebody else a week after your spouse passes away.It's just something you don't do in my opinion.

I think James' legacy is a lot stronger than Prince's and I do love me some Prince but damn....

Even if Prince was crowned the new Godfather of Soul, it would be kind of disrespectful towards James Brown. It would be kind of like saying, "Well now that James is gone, we need a replacement."

As amazing as Prince is, he had NOTHING to do with the origin of soul. He is one of the bearers of the torch, but he is not, nor will he ever be the Godfather of Soul, nor will he be Soul Brother #1, Mr. Dynamite, The hardest working man in Show Business, nor Papa. Those titles are all taken by the late, great JB.
