But r u not sometimes moved by some of ps piano dominated ballads, like, condition of the heart, sometimes it snows in april, I love u but I don't trust you anymore etc. I'm trying 2 get an idea of what u like. Can u please name me 5 P songs that kind of profile your preferences in his music.

I Love News!!! I do like when Prince decides to do instrumentals...sometimes there is no need for words. Don't get me wrong I like funk and rock like vain andy, but I'm not always in that mood...sometimes I just want to put on something that takes me to another place...N.E.W.S.(among other things) does that for me. Prince is a musician and a very moody one and I think N.E.W.S. is just an expression of one (or more) of his moods. Good album!!!!! ME likes, melikesalot! Good music makes me happy.

I can't stand "Sometimes It Snows In April" or "I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore". As for the slow jams, my favorites are the sexy bedroom jams such as..... Do Me Baby International Lover Insatiable Scandalous Eye Hate U Still Waiting The Beautiful Ones My real love is the funk. Mainly from the early years 1978-1984 when Prince still had a style mostly his own and wasn't running around trying to be his childhood heros. Stuff such as..... Head Let's Work Lady Cab Driver Sexy Dancer Irresistable Bitch Erotic City 1999 Partyup Controversy When Doves Cry I Wanna Be Your Lover Soft and Wet D.M.S.R. And even the rock and funk mixed with rock such as..... I'm Yours Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad Uptown Sexuality Private Joy Let's Go Crazy Automatic Computer Blue I like most of the stuff from 1985 to the present but I love basically all the stuff before 1985. When Prince dabbles into orchestras, folk music, hip hop, etc., those are turn offs for me. I like the funky stuff with horns but I would prefer cold synths. Some of the jazz and blues I can tolerate but I mainly like the funk/rock (preferably the synth kind but horns will do) and slow jams. However.....when it comes to the slow jams, I only like sexy slow jams. I hate "pretty" music of all kinds no matter who makes it. In other words, if it's something your grandmother would like, throw it out. . . [Edited 1/5/07 6:39am] Andy is a four letter word.

if prince tacked one of the tracks from N.E.W.S. to the end of, say, "letitgo" or "and god created woman" and leaked it into bootlegland as "unreleased 12 inch mixes" or somesuch, everyone would be screeching about how brilliant the unreleased instrumental parts are.
i like N.E.W.S. - i don't LOVE it, but i enjoy it - and i like that prince is noodling around. all his studio stuff is so self-conscious anymore, it's nice to just hear him jam.

And u do need blessing Don't we all? I use the word artsy/fartsy because it pisses off the fans that want Prince to be artsy/fartsy. It's true. Artsy? Throws me into a rage every time. I'm superfly TNT. Throw in fartsy? I'm the Guns of the Navarone! ...no emoticon can express my rage. Fartsy indeed. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

Generally his earlier stuff was better. Though I still really like the 1 nite alone album, and his more playful stuff. I love the jazz and classical stuff too. I hate the silly hiphop stuff, maybe it's over, already with the hip hop thing.

yeah but the possibilities of hiphop are surely exhausted. Any other direction is fine by me.

I sent this album to a friend without telling him what it was. He called me a day later to ask and when I told him it was Prince he almost fell off his chair. He loves it. But of course he is a big jazz fan and a musician. I think you need to have an appreciation of that genre to enjoy it. I love it. Just like I love Xenophobia and C-Note.

I love it too maybe cause I'm a musician and like your buddy I like jazz. I don't have Xenophobia or C-note, but it's sure good to hear that they're in a similar direction. Where can u get them now that the club has closed down.

Totally agree. They'd be compared to things like the extended versions of 'I Wish U Heaven' and 'Mountains'.

Ahh music in pure form, not structured or intended to be popular or a hit, just pure! I love it. "Man, the living creature, the creating individual, is always more important than any established style or system" - Bruce Lee

Like it, don't love it. Especially good for fooling people who think they know what "Prince" music sounds like or think they don't like "Prince" music.
I really liked the concept of the packaging--an aerial view of the earth on the outside and then it unfolds into four points representing the four seasons with the CD as a compass rose. I wish he would put more thought into the album covers again. sigh. . [Edited 1/8/07 21:21pm]

it came after the magnificent album TRC, a fulfilling and exhausting experience. NEWS was (4 me) like the cool afterglow. A not very demanding and refreshing listen. It's a true jem! I love the News cd. Didn't have it,and based on this forum topic, once again, drove to the local music store, found it, whipped out the credit card....etc The music reminds me of being at the aftershow in 3121 restaurant. With Prince jamming with musicians playing jazzy blues style music. Good memories. It's great music when I'm in the kitchen rolling out pasta, making tortellini...whatever. It's relaxing to listen to and creates an atmosphere of ummm....enjoying whatever it is I'm doing..... [Edited 2/1/07 17:00pm]
