Why do the fans OBSESS over Prince's success still? Seriously, it's been almost 3 decades the man has been working in the business with numerous albums, countless singles etc. Why do the fans still go on and on on whether "he's gonna make it" or "will the album sell well" or "is he on top" Or "he'll never have another number one...get's no radio play...needs a comeback".
After all this time with all of the ups and downs, isn't it clear that he's not going anywhere and that sales are arbitrary and don't mean a lot. He's a Rock Legend and always will be. Yet the fans pine for him to be on top all over again like it was back in the day. Do the fans really need that validity? Are they obsessed over it because he is? What do they expect out of him other than an album of decent quality? Is it that the fans want to turn back time to get back the glory years they feel were wasted on his battles with the Warners? Because it justifies their worship of him. Nobody likes looking stupid. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Because I am jealous that I missed those 'glory days' Im only 21. I was teased in highschool by N*SYNC and Backstreet Boys fans. EFFIN' BACKSTREET BOY FANS, WTF?! I tried to reason with them saying that all their talentless icons have been qouted as saying that THEY are Prince fans themselves, but did that stop them? No. Idiots. I will never forget the time in class when the unprepared jock behind me tapped me on the shoulder and said "Hey, Purple Rain, can I borrow a pencil?" I don't even think that A-Hole knew my name. K? So that's why I wan't him to be big again. I never got to see it the first time, or feel that sense of belonging. Is that OK with you? There's no need for us to worry if Prince's albums are going to be a success with the general public. There are enough of us regular fans that buy every release that make it worth Prince's while to continue recording whether the general public likes him or not. I say fuck the general public because look at what they are listening to these days. That's the last thing I want Prince to end up sounding like.
I hope he's never successful again with the general public (unless they change their taste in music) because he might start making boring bullshit to try to keep them as fans. Andy is a four letter word.
