The next weeks and months i have read the following things in here:
- Princes new website is called 3121.com
- Prince and other musicians are giving concerts in Las Vegas labelled '3121'
- Prince wants to start a 3121-printed magazine
- Prince is starting a perfume-fragrance called 3121

For me those are signals that Prince isnt done with 3121 yet at all. More and more i have the feeling that Prince will continue with the 3121-concept in 2007.

It probably means:
- no new groundbreaking / great album, but probably a DVD with concertmaterial from the Vegas concerts, and maybe (as some others here seem to think) a reissue of 3121 with remixes and added tracks.
- Prince trying to promote rather bland R&B / Nu-soul artists who i have no interest in.
- Prince trying to built further on an album that has died allready in the charts, and i doubt if i can create new interest in it (even if he is releasing a new version, i mean look what happened with Rave into the Joy Fantastic?)

Dont get me wrong, i dont consider 3121 a bad record, but it doesnt excite me much either, its a decent album with not many filler, buts its NOT the Prince i fell in love with: Prince, the musical innovator, the artist who does surprise and excite me with every new release (1999, Parade, Sign), its not even Prince, the artist who isnt growing artistically anymore, but still can write some great songs (Diamonds and Pearls, The Gold Experience).

Instead 2007 seems to become the year of Prince, the decent, uncontroversial, but calculated and boring artist. The man who released the album 3121 in 2006 and who seems purposed to NOT touch me and surprise me in 2007 either.

I might be wrong, it might be all speculations, but if this is really going to be the way i think its going to be, i am affraid that i am really gonna lose my interest in Prince as an artist.

i think prince "the rebel" has become more groundbreaking in the BUSINESS of being prince, moreso than the ART of being prince. he's still doing interesting things, but those things are not in his music so much anymore. he has nothing left to prove. the journey's over, and he's sprucing up the place now that he's hit his destination.

I love the whole 3121 thing!

The DVD might be true. this pure speculation here. but when i went to see Prince on Dec. 2nd i could have sworen when he was perfroming the song 3121, he said "yal' in the video". So take that with a grain of salt. but who knows well see. Although i could also see Prince making a new album. I still have a good feeling Prince is going to realse a new album this year. Just my speculation though.

Looking at it from Prince's point of view, he has been doing the same thing year after year for nearly 30 years - create album, push album, create album, push album. Perhaps he's just got to the point where he's bored with the process. Rather than doing the same old obvious stuff, creating another set of songs to promote, what interests him more right now is playing around with new business ideas and not worrying about so much about the next album, and the next album after that, and the next album after that. Not so good for us, but I could see how he feels he hasn't anything left to prove musically.

Personally I wouldn't mind if he kept the 3121 theme going throughout 2007, as long as he releases a new album (even a 3121 remix with extra new tracks) AND a DVD AND his fragrance AND does a nice job at the Superbowl (NOT a JB Tribute)... if he just stays stagnant and doesn't give us anything this year, then I'll be tired of 3121 and ready for his new obsession.

It could just be that "3121" is going to be Prince's new corporate trademark beyond the album itself. Look how long "New Power Generation" has hung around after being a song on "Graffiti Bridge".

the follow up album is being worked on. tentatively titled, "3122"

It IS strange he hasnt premiered any new songs in Vegas--correct?

He'll get bored with the whole 3121 thing soon enough (not that I have any problem with it), I'm actually surprised the whole style/image thing has lasted this long.

I enjoyed "3121" but it is time for him to move on to the next album because it's been almost a year since it's release. Unfortunately, it looks like he has started doing the same as everyone else these days, waiting two years to release a new album.
