No. I think Prince is the Father of New Power Soul, not the new Godfather of Soul.

No. I think Prince is the Father of New Power Soul, not the new Godfather of Soul. I like that, the title Godfather is retired like a jersey IMHO. PRINCE will always be His Royal Badness! And with no direspect 2 JAMES, GEORGE CLINTON, SLY, JIMI etc - they've all undoubtedly been a huge influence on PRINCE - but again, IMHO, he's gone above and beyond what they did, and so it goes...

Hardest working man in showbiz should be to whom ever is constantly touring and recording and there isn't anyone like that anymore. I doubt that...seriously Go ahead and doubt then. But even if Prince got his shit together and back on the road, it's highly unlikely that he'll ever catch up. In his heyday, Brown has played more than 1000 shows per year - sometimes up to six shows a day. Nobody does that anymore, and Prince surely hasn't done that either. Brown is from a different era. And he continued - for all of his life - to perform about 100 - 150 shows per year, in his final years about 80 shows per year. Granted, amnong the artists of his generation, Prince has performed more than the average artist, but he cannot even touch the Godfather of Soul. And regarding the recording output, JB has released more than 70 albums and 150 singles, plus an extra 40 - 50 albums and another circa 80 - 100 45s that he has produced. Unreleased music is stockpiled at Universal Music. No disrepect to Prince, but there is simply no man or woman in the music business with a greater output than James Brown.

Prince in my opinion was(is)the star pupil in that school and took James Browns influence on himself and raised it 2 the next natural level but 2 crown him Godfather is silly. That title goes 2 James Brown There will only ever b 1 Godfather of Soul the same as there is only 1 King of Rock and Roll Agreed. If it wasn't for James Brown, there would have been no Prince or Michael Jackson.

Has anyone seen The clip with JB, MJ and prince at a JB concert. MJ does his thing and gets away with it. P does his thing and it's extremely ugly, from entrance to exit. It shows p in a very bad, yet natural light. I was suprised at how well MJ handled it in comparison!

How well Michael handled what? When Prince got to the stage(Michael's whispered to James that he was in the building) Michael was no where to be found. Prince hugged James, played a funky riff, messed up and got off the stage because he was a little embarassed. Listen to what he played and you'll understand.(Or did you even listen?)

Another valid point. Prince is a pop artist, who sometimes ventures into soul and funk lands, but he certainly is not a soul artist.

I did, and I thought there was nothing to it Michael had 3 minutes center stage, he sang sweetly, spun around, then prince was called up. yes he was tense and preoccupied, and he behaved like a turd. Eventually he fell off the stage gracelessly. An embarassment! r u a stepford fan?
