Think Prince will pay tribute to JB somehow at the Super Bowl?

not sure if Maceo will be playing with Prince for the Super Bowl, but i wouldn't be surprised (although it'll be "old news", funeral complete, etc.) if they paid tribute to JB in some way even if its only playing a couple of classic riffs during a song or something, or dedicating the performance entirely to him. what do you all think?

I hadn't given any thought to that, but James Brown was such an entertainer,singer,showman,artist...they might dedicate something to him.

Everyone is going to feel this loss!!

Merry Christmas! Yes, I imagine Prince will play some tribute at the Superbowl as well as during the weekend performances in Vegas.

Amen!
If he dosent slute the Godfather for the whole show I will be surprised. Prince knows he has a huge debt to James Brown on his career.

I'm sure he will. He and Maceo did a heart-warming tribute to Ray Charles (shortly after his death) during the Musicology Tour with Georgia On My Mind.

...even if he doesn't perform a full-out JB song, i'm sure he'll at least throw in some musical snatches from Mother Popcorn or sumthin'.

I'm sure he'll do a tribute at the next 3121 show. But this will be 2 months old news by the time of the superbowl, I doubt it will be as relevant then, but who knows?

I think that he would probably do some type of tribute during his NYE show this weekend, like play a few snippets of his songs.

James Brown should have his own "Candle in the Wind". It would be good if Prince wrote it. If not for this weekend, at some point.
Would be good for the Grammys. They will surely do a tribute for him.

On the contrary. It'll be the beginning of Black History Month, a perfect time time to highlight the role of Brother James during the movement.

True, because Musicology is a JB song all the way, but by a tribute, I meant that he actually sings a James Brown record and has a moment of silence. I'm not sure if the Superbowl is the proper venue or not?

It would be nice if he some how incorporated one of James Brown songs into his act.James Brown was the Godfather of Soul- he was too funky, if I was a singer and performing I would do something to remember this man who shaped the music we enjoy today. biggrin

I sure hope so. Even in this time of sadness, there's still some good left. There simply could have been someone else "inked" to perform, Destiny dictated that it will be P. Who better to continue this legacy?!

Let the game begin....

I think P will do something big at the Superbowl for JB.

A lot of people don't understand why he didn't attend James' homegoing.

But he'll do something in his own way with the music to make us smile and say "That's our boy." (IMO)

As I stated in the other JB superbowl tribute thread I am going on the line by stating that P will definitely pay tribute to Godfather of Soul, if I had to bet he'll play Soulman. Also I could imagine P paying his respect to JB's funeral privately without public scrutiny. I think his performance at the Superbowl will blow everyone away, and he will definitely top MJ's appearance and speech for JB. In my opinion his performance and tribute to JB will be the talk way after the performance. His music has always been his language and I denfintely think once he's in the spot light and in control will impress everyone with his tribute and respectful nod to one of his inspirations. I have a very good and strong feeling about this one, hence I am putting my bet out there. If wrong I will be dissapointed and surprised. Can't wait to see it play out. biggrin

In 97 I saw Prince do James' Little Groovemaker bit at a show.
He had the whole crowd doing the "Hey hey..... I feel alright".
I think he even said it right out with "we're takin back to '67"
or something like that.
It was very cool, high energy, & fun. I think if he did something like
that during the Superbowl performace it would be a cool way to pay
tribute to JB and have the audience involved too dancing jig
