Anybody know if there are high quality versions of these songs floating around? Always prefered them over the released ones. Thanks

I had platinum and it wasn't on there.I think the cd was called blue and the quality of the ulysses tracks are pretty bad.What's funny is the original version of come(the one that's sounds more like JB)is in pretty good quality but it gets broken over three parts(with the quality varying).I have never found these in good quality.If you find them let me know.

I always thought the "Glam Slam Ulysses" could have been a very good album. I like the concept of the whole thing, the songs included, sequence ... Most of it has been released anywhere in any form, but the collection itself is very nice, wouldn't you say?

I bet one day all of a sudden a perfect soundboard tape of this will emerge somewhere on the planet.

That alternate mix of RACE seems to be much more organic and funky in here than on Come.

The Glam Slam Ulysses show consisted of the following songs;

The Glam Slam Ulysses version of Dolphin is almost identical to the released version anyway. The only difference is that the Glam Slam Ulysses version is missing some of the overdubs and keyboard parts, it's not any longer or anything.

Space is also virtually the same as the released version as well, although it is about a minute longer. The mix is not quite as polished, and the extra length is mostly just an extended instrumental towards the end. The same can be said of the Glam Slam Ulysses version of Dark as well.

The Glam Slam Ulysses version of Endorphinmachine is much more interesting, as it is virtually the same as the one used on the original test pressing of Come. It's much more guitar driven, missing most of the overdubs present on the Gold Experience version.

The three songs that really are radically different to the officially released versions are Come, Race and Loose!.

Come is a completely different recording to the one that was used on the Come album. It's a lot shorter, faster and funkier. It has more of a 'live band' feel to it, and the song builds up to a final crescendo. On an early version of the Come album, Come, Endorphinmachine and Space segued perfectly into each other, creating the same non-stop effect as the first three songs on Parade. Personally, I really like this version of Come and have been trying to get hold of a decent studio copy for years, but I don't think one exists. On a side note, the remix used in the Beautiful Experience TV special was based on this version.

The Glam Slam Ulysses version of Race also has more of a funky 'live band' feel to it than the released version. It has a completely different 'lead line', a horn riff with more of a 20's 'Doop' feel, but most of the samples and effects present in the final version are still present.

Loose! is also radically different, being much more of a high energy guitar driven rock song. The released version is a kind of 'techno' remix of this original version, replacing the guitar riff with a spiky sequenced keyboard riff.

The rest of the songs used in Glam Slam Ulysses are the same as the released versions.

good stuff Boris. That was very thorough. Are you a writer for UPTOWN or something? Did you see the show? I saw it twice. Pretty lame, but there is a video tape of the show floating around. I don't know how the sound is but the songs are very good and deserved a better release.

Thanks Boris! I should have just asked if there's a high quality version of this whole show in the subject. Race, Space, Come, Endorphinemachine are so much better here. I guess the main difference in Dolphin is that it has an intro similar to what's at the end of the Undertaker version. Is Endorphinemachine the only thing different on the original test pressing of Come?

Unfortunately, there are no decent quality copies of these songs circulating. The only recordings of the Glam Slam Ulysses show have been audience recordings. A lot of the songs also appear on a playback of an early configuration of the 'Come' album, but again only as an audience recording.

'Endorphinmachine' is indeed the only different version of a song on the original test pressing of 'Come'. It also includes the cpmplete 'Poem', which was cut up and used as segues on the released version.

I attended the Glam Slam West show with Carmen Electra of Ulysses. I was floored. I love Come when I heard it. It seemed like it was Prince's next album and I thought it was powerful, inspired, and destined to become a classic.

I actually went to the library soon after and read Ulysses. It went great with the whole hermaphrodite name change to the symbol. Fascinating little period. It would have been a really cool era if he were to continue it at the time with the whole Greek mythology theme.

That's why Come remains one of my favorite Prince 90's albums. It fell a little flat because Prince got pissed with WB and turned the project into a statement against "Prince". Oh well.
