do you all think thes 3 guys are borrowing heavily from Prince with the way they are going about producing and crafting the images of Fergie(Will I. Am),Gwen Stefani(Pharrel)and Nelley Furtado(Timbaland).I mean Tim and Pharrell's music already sounds like a Prince knockoff(in a good way)and the way that the girls are now really reminds me of the "dirtying up" of Sheena Easton after she got hooked up with Prince(after which she made her best music).I mean here we have 3 pop female artists who have hooked up with Prince influenced producers and are now doing r&b music.Sounds like the Prince/Sheena thing.

No doubt.

It's a shame everything they do is such utter, utter shit.

on the ride home from the airport last night, listening to the new gwen stefani cd, we were talking about this.

if prince hooked up with pharrel (and a few pther producers that mimic prince's classic sound) and actually allowed someone else to co-produce him, the record would be absolutely incredible. pharrell steals so much from classic prince but knows how to incorporate it into something "new." that is, he knows how to update it. prince has lost touch with what's current. that's cool...he is almost 50 so its to be expected. now he just needs to work with someone who shares his tastes for grooves but who is also in the here and now.

prince's problem is too many people do prince better today. now, nobody tops prince at prince's artistic peak but compared to his work today, there's a lot of people who should be reminding prince how he did it.

Although I agree with you that he would have tremendous success with an outside producer, I think at this point it would be viewed as a negative. Prince has always been self-produced (for good or for bad).

Think about it, if Prince had the biggest success of his career with an outside producer, the credit would go to the producer.

and at 50 years old and being in the business, doing it your way the whole time, is that a bad thing. at this point, what prince does is musical masturbation. he needs a partner to make it fun. i don't think anyone would look at it negatively. bob dylan, johnny cash, and lots of other legends release stuff that includes credits to others. nobody in music looks down on collaborations.

nod We all know that Prince has a huge ego and he wouldn't want someone else taking most of the credit for his comeback.

No mather what choice he makes on this, it will always be the wrong one. If he doesn't use an outside producer people claim he is out of touch. If he does use an outside producer people will shout that he is selling out.

i dont think those guys music are shit.i think they are rather good.especially timbaland.it would be interesting for prince to work on actual lp tracks with them.after all the neptunes remixed "the greatest romance ever sold".and prince isnt out of touch.check out waiting room by no doubt..which he produced.it was awesome.

If it were NOT 4 prince, Pharrell may not have a career. The others i don't feel really sound anything like Prince.

All Prince needs is airtime. Some of these artist u mention are tearing up the airwaves because they are being played. If Prince had the same exposure his music would be in everyones cd player because his music sounds better than what gets played now days imho. Hell everytime I turn the radio on thats all u hear is your jt's, pharrels, timbalands etc.

I would like to think that Prince would much rather collaborate with people who can actually play instruments and play 'em well outside of a studio. Dude's a musician, first and foremost. At this point in his career, I wonder if he's like a lifelong bachelor who is set in his ways and loves his independence.

Besides, would you want Prince to do a Lionel Richie and come off sounding like a middle-aged guy trying to sound like he's twenty?

timbaland has songs that sound like Prince..but anyway thats not the point i was making.i was talking about the similarities of how these guys have changed the images of these women musically the way that prince did with sheena easton 20 yrs ago..she went from doing "morning train" to doing "sugar walls"and stuck with that formula the rest of her career.

For the record, I'd like to say that Tim, Will, Pharrell and Chad are all great at what they do which is making hit records. Its obvious that they are inspired by Prince just as Prince is inspired by James Brown, Marvin Gaye, and Sly Stone.
