Prince to the next BET Lifetime Achievement Winner?

Something tells me that Prince will be the best artist to receive the BET Lifetime Achievement Award. If you look at the people who have received these things they have been artists who richly deserve them like: Earth, Wind And Fire, Chaka Khan, Luther Vandross,Michael Jackson, Isley Brothers, James Brown, Whitney Houston. Since 2004 when Prince gave an interview to Stephen Hill, (Head of BET programming and big-time Prince fan), BET has subtlely been inching towards building a strong business relationship with him like airtime for his new videos and such. Subsequently he was nominated for a few awards at their award show around the time Musicology came out. This year won for Best Male R+B Artist and played along with Stevie Wonder, India Arie, and Yolonda Adams in paying tribute to Chaka Khan.

I say all this, there is no reason why Prince shouldn't be honored in '07 by BET by giving a LTAA or Walk Of Fame thing, whatever. However, they should do it right and have Alan Leeds say a few words about the man, a short video montage of interviews from people who know him, P accept the award, and have other singers and musicians pay tribute to him like Lenny Kravitz (When U Were Mine), Outkast (?), Pussycat Dolls (?), etc.

If it is feasible it would even be a good idea to start lobbying to BET in January about it. Who knows? Just a thought. Here's to the new year. May there be bigger things for Housequake and P in 2007.

I'm sure everyone else on prince.org wishes housequake.com all the best in the New Year too.

And vice versa.

(I'll say it now for everyone and get it out of the way so we don't all have to replicate the same thread on both sites).

I hope so. I think he deserves it. Whatever your opinion over his current work, you have to admit the man has an impressive catalog. For years, he's churned out hits...he should be recognized for that!
