Which Prince song reminds you of something you’ve experienced?

For me "Joy In Repetition" reminds me of a time when I was at The Roseland Ballroom, in New York. Summer time of the mid 1970's. I was there to listen to several Salsa bands. I was near the stage and a tall, fine man grabbed me by my hand and took me to the dance floor. We danced salsa for several songs but then the band played a ballad. (I hate that!) We were sweaty from the quick dancing however we lost ourselves in that bolero. Afterwards we went outside to talk. We hung out all evening.

Whenever I hear "Joy In Repetition", I recall this evening. He said ‘Love me’ and I did.

I've changed a lot since then... lol

I won't talk about 'Bob George' biggrin , but 'Welcome 2 The Dawn' will always remind me of when I came out as gay cos it was at about that time AND that whole idea of revelation and self-discovery seemed perfect to me.

Power Fantastic - even though it's about God/The Holy Spirit, the lyrics at the time fit perfectly with my (then) girlfriend.

...dirty mind. he held me in his arms, played the music on my body and sang the lyric in my ear...

Every time I hear Screams of Passion, I think of my boyfriend in 11th-12th grade. Not that the words remind me of our relationship, but the song itself was playing one night when we were in his room.

He had a king size waterbed that always had satin sheets on it. He had a kick-ass stereo system and had positioned the speakers at either side of the headboard. So anyway, one night, we were laying in his bed, and I had brought over my Prince mix tape. Screams of Passion came on. It actually was Fall, and the his windows were open. There was a light breeze blowing and it was not quite dark out...dusk, I guess. I'm laying on satin sheets and was really stoned (I was a total weed-head back then). That song came on, and I guess because I was in such a dreamy, relaxed state, I thought that moment was beautiful and began to cry.

So every time I hear Screams of Passion, I'm reminded of that passionate feeling. That's why I will always consider it one of my Top 10 All Time Favorite Songs.

When Doves Cry - I was 13 when this came out and had just moved from one parent to the other, and wasn't having much joy with either. This song as well as the obvious lyrical relevance was a perfect summary of how helpless and downright sad I felt at the time.

I left home at 16 and I've been a happy chappy since then. That song still takes me back though.
