Which tour/concert do u think was his worst?? For me it was the NewPower Soul/jam of the Year tour 1998, 2 much larry graham and 2 many medleys. the aftershow at Tivoli however was supurb

Hit 'n Run 2001 night 1, after the celebration. We were in the 2nd row and I must say it was a snoozefest. It was just NOT exciting. That's when I started to lose faith. Then came Xenophobia. Never count Prince out, I guess.

the Oakland Jam o The Year Tour In 98, i had floor towards the back, could barely see & to top it off the sound was horrible but the aftershow at Club Townshend more than made up for it. I feel bad for my buddy who came to the show on my insistence & left verry unimpressed but missed the aftershow due to having to work the nxt. day. To this day he never believes me when i tell him how great p's show's have been & i can't really blame him, you know what they say about 1st impressions..

Friends of mine couldn't go, so they sold the tix to a couple of my co-workers who i had gotten all pumped up for the show, one of which used to be a huge P fan.
Man, he was so disappointed.

The next night made up for it, but they won't be back anytime soon.

Best concert: Lovesexy 88 in Worcester Mass.
2nd best: Jam of the Year 98 in Mpls, Thurs nite show. The encore was amazing. Thanx P.

Oakland, Jam of the Year...Already seen the same show two years in a row (previous Jam run and Love4Oneanother)...the guy seemed to be floating on Elvis fumes just going through the greatest hits motion...I even fell asleep during Purple Rain...

this show soured me to his shows for a couple years...

I enjoyed Oakland's Jam of the Year. It wasn't my favorite or the most exciting, but it was okay. My LEAST favorite was at the Concord Pavilion with Larry Graham and Chaka Kahn, around 98 or 99. Larry performed tooo long, and Prince just did not seem to be into the show. It was like he was going through the motions. It wasn't too long after he hurt his ankle, so maybe that had something to do with it. Chaka was actually the best part of the concert. She outdid everyone.

NewPower Soul/Jam of the Year tour 1998 by far was the most disappointing. Prince did not realize that the Metro closed at midnight in DC, and he had let Larry Graham and Chaka Khan play WAY TOO LONG. So we ended up with 2-1/2 hours of them and only an hour of Prince. I don't think he'll play the MCI Center again after that. He's used the Patriot Center and the Warner Theater since.

That MCI show was not much fun.

I have never been to a Prince concert that disappointed me.

The Jam of the Year show in Los Angeles (around 97 I believe). The started late due to tech problems, Larry and his opening act sucked and then Prince played for like 90 minutes and then closed the show beacuse the Hollywood Bowl has an 11pm curfew.

The Ultimate Live Experience Show (1995) in Ghent was maybe the least exiting of all shows I saw so far. He seemed to be very tired and kept every song short. Except for Get Wild which saved the concert on its own...

But to call it dissapointing ??? NO WAY !

There were a few stinkers-

New Power Soul (October '98 )- got in a fight with the people I attended it with and our seats were shittier than advertised by the pirate who sold them to me.

Hit and Run (November 2000)- I attended the Detroit and Grand Rapids show. At the first, again our seats were not the best. I wanted general admission but didn't get them. And on top of that, I was in the mezzanine section and people behind me standing at the bar no less who had not paid to stand there were yelling at my brother and I to sit down. And at the Grand Rapids show, we couldn't get into the afterparty cuz my brother was under 21. I tried to sneak him in w/ my old idea but they found us out. Oh well.

Xenophobia, night 6- Need I say more. There was no need for a repeat show. Just get Sheila and Eric out there and do Madhouse or Lovesexy all night.

buffalo's jam of the year concert, although i had great seats and it was his first show in buffalo since purple rain, he did little 2 make the audience wish he'd tour here more often. while it was the most disappointing, i personally had a gr8 time, and like someone said b4, disappointing is probably the wrong word, least excited by maybe. on the flip side, the ONA show in buffalo was one of, if not my favorite show to date, and despite the fact the buffalo crowd knew little of the new material, they were much more appreciative and were rewarded with a GREAT aftershow at the tralf. the toronto ONA show is a close second...
is anyone sensing a theme here concerning JOTY?

well, i don't know fi this technically counts as the JOTY tour, but i saw him in columbus in about may of 1998, right before newpowersoul came out, and it was dubbed "the one" with sqiggly featuring larry graham and doug e fresh. larry played a lot, but didn't sing much (thank god). and lawd knows that brutha can slap a bass. still, though, prince was onstage for 3 1/2 hours, hoppin' around like baryshnikov, and despite doug e's horrid "o-h-i-o" chants (what are we, at a football game?) i was AMAZED at prince's stamina and just overall performance (it was my first concert, after all).

still ona in lakeland blew that one away during the guitar solo in rainbow children, before he even got to the 2nd song. the man's guitar playing was FIERCE.

JOTY/NPS 1997/8 for sure yeah. His least inspired tour... does a medley then it's over. Could of kept that in Las Vegas... seeing Chaka and Larry on same bill was a nice bonus though.

I enjoyed it as my first Prince concert but by this point I'd seen video of his Dirty Mind, Purple Rain, Parade, SOTT, Lovesexy etc tours so it paled.

25 seconds of all his songs.(mostly)
Larry Graham but he was fine
Chaka sucked!! she would just scream these aweful waaay to long r&b songs..

( but it was fine for the $20 I paid to get in)

He didn't even show up the the afterparty

I've had Really On Time Prince Concert's but the Duds for me were:"The Purple Rain" Tour I saw.too Much Vegas on Acid vibe overall&feeling like He was Selling Out.He did the Tour for the most part just like the Film."Lovesexy"Tour when it became the start of His 88 Songs in 88 Minutes.He followed the Medley Format for a really long time it seemed.saw other Concerts from the 90's onward on Tape.97 wasn't happening to me at all.95 had some spark though.95 touring Band was probably the Last Live Stuff of His I was feeling for the most part.

It's nice to see posts from so many BayArea orgers. I offer a little clarification on the '98 Oakland and Concord shows, both of which I attended.

The Jan '98 show in Oakland was part of the "Jam of the Year" tour. I thought it was outstanding. He played long versions of several newer songs, many from the Symbol CD (Sexy MF, The Max), some from Emancipation, and a lot from New Power Soul (it was still unreleased at the time). I had great seats in the "Purple Circle" section. Prince was on fire that night, played a long set for Oakland. I thought the band sounded great. It was a wonderful concert.

In contrast, the Concord "New Power Soul" show (or was it the very end of a protracted "Jam of the Year" tour? - the stage set-up was similar) later that year, in early October I believe, was a disaster. He had sprained his ankle in late September '98 in Atlantic City, and that led to the last minute cancellation of his LA show, followed by the VERY attenuated Concord show. The ankle was casted. He couldn't dance much, and he seemed to be in pain. It was over before it started. That was the worst performance that I've ever seen from Prince, but it occurred AFTER his ankle injury.

Anyway, that's how I remember it. On a positive note, the two BEST performances that I've ever seen, by ANYONE, were the RubySkye Hit N Run show 12/3/00 and the LA Kodak Theatre One Nite Alone show 4/19/02. I can't wait for the live ONA CD.

What Starbuck said. That show blew. 'Purple Rain' tour ran a close second though.

Each one that I have attended truly has held it's own individual purpose, personally.

Disappointed... ... never.

Even when Prince showed up for a 45 min. quicky , he sure did jam "The Ride"... and that alone was more than I ever could hope for.

Any and all performances I truly treasure/appreciate..., I don't ever think I can nearly get enough.

tour at M.S.G. That was fucking GREAT!!

No,I was there and Loved that show. All Of Prince's shows were Great in N.Y. especially his recent Avery Fisher show and Outrageously Dynamite aftershow at the World. The only thing I was Disappointed about was the 2nd night of Xenophobia when we didn't see a whole Prince show because of problems or something but Prince made it up to us by taking us to the Movies instead to see Minority Report. Prince has never disappointed me with any of his Performances Ever. I just wish I sometimes Had enough Strength to go to Aftershows and then next day Shows. I Love that Man.

Nude Tour, Wembley Arena, London in 1990. It was my first Prince concert after being blown away watching the Lovesexy concert on TV in '88. However I think I was disappointed because of my high expectations rather than the quality of the performance. I was comparing it too much to the Lovesexy show.

Nude Tour, Gentofte Stadium, Copenhagen, Denmark, 1990. I was standing right at the middle in the very first row, but all we got was some 80 minutes of hit-medleys with only a few songs in their full lenght - which at this ocasion was topped by 6 a minutes "long" The Question of You...!
