Does anyone think WB messed up with 'ultimate'? It could of been a 3cd set with all the extended versions/remixes instead of putting the hits out again for the FOURTH TIME(3 compilations plus albums).
I presume now we will not have any more Prince albums on WB so they have ruined a great chance to give fans amazing sounding(straight from vinyl;better) hard to get songs.

There already is a 3CD set, and it was re-released as a budget title just a year or two back. Generally speaking hits/singles compilations are aimed at the widest audience possible, not just die-hard fans, so commercially speaking, a full price 3CD set makes less sense than a smaller compilation. Some of the 12" mixes on 'Ultimate' have never been released on CD before, so for those who don't collect vinyl, it's been a nice, if small, treat. keenlythegod said: I presume now we will not have any more Prince albums on WB so they have ruined a great chance to give fans amazing sounding(straight from vinyl;better) hard to get songs.
They haven't 'ruined' anything, there are no more albums for them to release, and no-one knows what will happen in the future with regards to re-issues, remasters or further compilation releases. Lastly, transfering from vinyl isn't a preferable method of release, I think you might be getting a bit confused with the recent chat on here regarding CD quality verses vinyl. That's the problem...only fans like ourselves would buy the set if it had just extended vesions on it (as much as I'd love that). WB needed something that'll appeal to the casual fan aswell, hence the big hits being compiled again.

They would have sold more with a penguin sticker in the front

Compilation sets like "The Hits & B-Sides" and "Ultimate" are good if you're the average consumer.
it depends on where your "funk" level is as far as "purple" is concerned.

Instead of re-releasing the same ol, they should've released a double CD of all the remixes with a few unreleased trax. Seriously, if a crystal clear long version of Computer Blue or the hard to find long version of Mountains or La La La Hee Hee Hee were on there I would've bought it for sure. Also, I know Prince is all born-again and everything but what Ultimate set is really ultimate without Erotic City?
The way it is now really isn't worth it for the hard core imo and its a little too much for the casual fan.

Yes, Ultimate has its flaws, but I bought it anyway... just to show Prince and WB that I'm out here waiting for remasters and 12"ers on cd!

FUCK the Ultimate.
I'm waiting on a Purple or Orange limited edition Ipod with Remasters, alternate versions, and video collection. They could bill it as "PRODUCT PURPLE" and donate 10% of the proceeds to some charity or some shit.
