Musiq givin' props

It's been a couple of weeks now but I saw Musiq (Soulchild) on BET 25 countdown and get was giving much love and respect for helping him out and inviting him to the Celly.

He was really still in awe of the entire experience, I can tell.

Will somebody tell me what in bloody hell the Celly is? Is it a club in NY or something? I'm figuring it is but I'd like to know for sure since I see it sprinkled all over this place. Thanks! biggrin

On another note, is Musiq's new CD worth the $? I'm pretty bored w/ the singles he's put out so far, but that doesn't always mean much. I didn't like the first single off his first album (whatever it was called) but I dug the rest of the album a LOT...
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

LOL...celly= Prince's gig, Celebration.

To be honest, Musiq wasn't up to par with
the rest of the musicians at the celebration,
IMO. He lacks stage presence, and his voice
is not strong enough to pull of a performance
without it.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

If you liked the first album a lot you should enjoy the new album as well.

i agree totally. you can tell in the studio he has it all mapped out and he does well in that atmosphere. but live he struggles though you can still tell he isn't all garbage, it's just uncomfortable for him and he lacks the vocal range also.

I'm not about to compare Musiq to Prince. But, just to put things into perspective, even when Prince first started performing nationally and opening for people like Rick James, it was not uncommon for Prince to get "booed". So I guess my point is that even with Prince, who is now known worldwide to be one of the BEST live performers EVER, even he had to develop his stage prescence over time.

Just something to think about when considering a lot these young cats, like Musiq, that are still relatively new to the game.

Yup totally...you can't expect a rookie to tear it up, their first couple of years on the scene. As for Musiq's 'Music' it's absolutely beautiful...

NewNess (Things are always great in the beginning...)

DontChange (a song about unconditional love)

Realove(this song is great)

It's worth the money...if you don't want to spend that much...go to Best Buy...Cd's are always on sale. $13.99's the average. I don't see the since in buying music at a regular Wrecka Stow; like Sam Goody, Record Town or FYE...

Musiq likes to talk in Sly Stone Talk&Spelling but that is far as that Comparrsion will ever go.this Cat has no Changes in His Vocal Pitch or vibe.kinda just there. He has these Song titles like He is gonna really say or do something grand&then you get that same ole I got Hurt&My Dog Ate the Poem I'd written for you&whatnot. He will be Aight in this Watered-Down Era of Music but back in the day He would have been lucky to be backing up 5-Star or the Jets on a Video Shoot.

Some of ya'll are awfully harsh on this guy. I would suggest you listen to the song "Don't Change" and you'll hear one of the sweetest r and b singles in years. Just beautiful. And the track "Newness", also from the Juslisen CD reminds of Stevie Wonder. However, I will agree that his vocal range is a tad limited (doesn't do high notes).

Plus, I think Musiq should get props for not portraying stupid hip hop stereotypes. We need more nice guys making "black" music.

what do you mean more Nice Guys Making Black Music?? please explain that statement? I could say the same about Dixie Chicks,Kenny G, ,Aerosmith Tyler,Michael Bolten,Celine Dion all making Tired "White" Music.I think Sting should get Props for not Portraying Stupid Boring Adult Contempary Stereotypes.we need more challenging Aritists like Sting.when you flip a statement like that you see how it can flip back on you?

If "Don't Change" is the one where him & his girl are OLD & gray in the video, that song bores the shit out of me. He's just walking through it... bored

But I like him overall, I just haven't heard anything impressive off the 2nd album yet. neutral

You guys are mighty cold on Musiq!

Ya'll couldn't be mo negative toward other artists(As always) rolleyes. 4 the love of god, give the brotha time to breath and grow as an artist. PPL booed at Prince's pre4mance back in the day, does that make him a WEAK pre4mer just becoz he slipped once??

Musiq was OVER-HYPED becoz he had the chance to pre4m with a living legend, not all ppl pre4m with Prince ya know?? And when you find one that means thy have something special.

I became a fan of Musiq when I came to his concert over her in NYC early this year and you know what?? The brotha is full of energy, he delivered a mighty fine pre4mance there with alot of normal avarage ppl like him unlike the celly(Where every BIG name delivered a pre4mance and there he was all alone singing with bunch of big heads).

Try to anderstand a brotha and don't get mad when a critic BASH Prince becoz ya'll ain't no different than that critic.

Nice Jets reference! I have to agree with you. I'm trying to get into Musiq and Neosoul artists, and did like The "Friends" song, but that was a sample and I really don't think he can write a song. He has the right "sound" that I like, but what makes Stevie, Sly and Prince great isn't just their great production and technical playing, but they can write melodies to sing and remember forever. Musiq doesn't have that yet, if he ever will, not sure. Stevie and Prince definitley grew up after their first couple of albums.

Mistermaxxx, I think you misunderstood me, I'm not saying anything racist. I'm just saying in the world of so called "black" music, there are a lot of representatives that are pushing the wrong things (most hip-hop artists) and I think Musiq tries to represent love and more mature topics, not bling-bling, hos, and weed.
