I love the cd; of course but i specifically would love to know about the sound of the vinyl as i don't listen to them but am aware bernie grundman is considered great at mastering them.

I love the album for the artwork alone. Much bigger pictures on the two inside sleeves and I love the eye on the record labels.

Got both versions of the album on vinyl! eek
Yep I relly loved and admired the Purple guy that much as a teen!
My only complaint is the lack of bass! But that's typical of 80's recordings I suppose. Got no idea about the CD. Maybe it's got more bass! confused

The vinyl sounds much more organic than the cd release. The sound is brighter and more vibrant. Cd used to equalise the sounds you heard there's much more distinction of instruments on vinyl. Of course this doesn't apply to new cd's being made (remastered or higher bit) But closest to vinyl sound comes the sacd or dvd-audio.

Keenlythegod, were you Mikek1 before this? His profile has disappeared and suddenly you appear with virtually every post about the quality of mastering of various albums much like he did...

Well technically there's hardly any bass on the record anyway...it's all synthetic. I've always thought 1999 (CD version) had pretty shitty sound quality anyway. shrug

What?

I'm thinking about buying a turntable becuase i have several hendrix and prince vinyls but i don't have a clue if the sound is any better. I know certain ones do e.g led zeppelins vinyls are suposed to be excellent.

Any help of vinyls would be appreciated because i have cds.

BTW Can i just put any turntable into my technics hi fi.

I DON;T KNOW MUCH ABOUT TURNTABLES OR VINYL SO I HAVE TO ASK; IS THIS O.K?

If u have the turntable option u should be safe with any turntable. I'd go with a Technique 1200 or 1500 if i were u.

Just look at the back of your Technics Stereo, and look for 2 "PHONO" RCA jacks. Most stereos have these, but some current ones don't. Even if your stereo doesn't have the PHONO jacks, U can get a cheap phono preamp, which applies the right curve 2 a turntable, so U can just go into an AUX pair of jacks on the back of your stereo. I BET U have the PHONO inputs though.

just a side note:

some turntables have a separate single wire, which is a ground wire.

Most stereo receivers that have the PHONO inputs, also have a screw for your turntable's ground wire.

If it doesn't, just loosen any outer screw on your stereo, and get the ground wire under it properly, then screw the wire down, and you're grounded...
