I remember hearing all those new songs on boots and radio (days of wild, now, sssh, 319 etc), seeing the Beautiful experience show on tv, experiencing the Gold experience live in concert (what a wonderful tour that was!!!)
going 2 Den Bosch 4 the concerts a day early and while waiting there hearing that at night there would be a Prince special on the radio with new and unreleased songs!!! that made me and a friend go back home and stay up taping the new songs from the radio (was the then unreleased Exodus album) going back 2 Den Bosch again...Waiting 4 the concerts 2 start. And boy so cool starting with Endorphine Machine...and his mike didn't work!!! he gave the technician some evil eyes and played some mo guitar, and kept trying the mike til finally (last refrain) it worked again! Mayte trying 2 make the people go wild...Everything about that tour was so cool and fresh!!
I remember, the prince fans singing along 2 every new (then unreleased song) and the regs just standing there hoping 2 hear Purple rain or any other familiar song. this was so daring, touring behind an unreleased album and almost no older songs!!!
I really liked this time in prince history, almost all songs given 2 us during that time are priceless!!! he was everywhere, the radio, the tv and the charts...

Oh Yeah!

Not sure if it was the "most" exciting Prince period but it certainly was a cool time. the 1995 Wembley Arena concert is still my favourite show I've seen so far. I hadn't heard Gold until that day and it gave me goosebumps and made my eyes water. Especially the guitar solo! WOW!

It's between that era and 87-88. However, since I didn't become a fan until 93, I'd have to say the Gold era.

I remember the anticipation for the Emancipation album was very exciting as well. Especially with those interviews where he would talk about releasing 50 songs for the E album and saying that it was his best collection of songs ever...

The time frame between late 1985 to late 1989 is where Prince hit his musical stride and peak. Those are the years where he was his most prolific, creative and down right funky. If U notice, that's where most of the best boots come from.

I agree, the Come/Gold era was Prince's most exciting period since '87. I have very similar recollections of that time as you starbuck. We were all buying and trading boots to hear the new songs. I think Gold was the only track that I didn't hear until he played it live.

I remember the house lights going down, the purple medley playing on the video screens - finishing with the message "Prince 1958-1993". Then 's voice over the PA saying "Prince is dead, long live the New Power Generation!" The curtain dropping to reveal 'that' stage, and the band launching into a storming rendition of Endorphinmachine. It was just such an exciting period for Prince fans...all that new music!

This was a very exciting time to be a Prince fan. Because of the dispute, his music started becoming fierce. Prince's anger inspired him to throw down some kick ass music. I remember finding Exodus and listening to it with a couple friends of mine. At the time, I couldn't Believe Prince was writing songs Like Big Fun and Hallucination Rain. I expected this to be the beginning of a great era, instead he got stuck in a very repetetive mode and hired Kirky J to program/play drums.

What started out as the beginning of an incredible musical period turned out to be a 7 year angry ordeal that led Prince into further depths of craziness.

I almost agree! I would say the Whole Mayte era was Slammin!
Although, I did'nt appreciate Diamonds and Pearls And Come at that time
-Gold? Is my favorite (except, Shy and we march) I never liked Rosie or that
type of vocal with his music.
I've haven't been to a concert, Someday...

After hitting No.1 with TMBGINW the decine began

EXODUS an overly long uninspiring Sonny T platform,lower sales.

COME minimum airplay or media interst for patchy album, lower sales.

GOLD TOUR no favourites, no stage show,no Prince(dead)

NAME CHANGE the continued name fuck-ups from o(+> to TAFKAP to the artist

GOLD EXPERIENCE the terrible marketing and promotion of a serious return to form album which should have and could have been as successful as PR and D&P.

CHAOS & DISORDER nuff said!!!
