THE COME ALBUM

ok i know this has been discussed before, but i truely feel that come is an underrated album. the production is prince at his best seriously. listen to space for an example. but has anyone ever noticed exactly how dark sad emotional this album is. i just read the lyrics to the whole album and it kind of makes me sad. it's kind of like the black- but better. it's a really depressing album. but i would put it on the level as being one of my favorites. but seriously read the lyrics and tell me what you think. it left me with this weird feeling. like i didn't know pheramone was about all of that!

Good Evening Orgers,

I thought COME was a good record. The title track was awesome with that tight turnaround on the bridge. Sonny T cut a deep groove on that piece. Those two elements alone made the recording worth the price of admission to me. "Phermore" was great with some some great imaginative erotic lyrics from LIL MAN. "Papa" was good too with an unusual climax(the ending of that song kind of rendered the song incomplete..it just seems like there should have been more to it). "Loose" just flat out kicks booty. Really enjoyed seeing Mayte shaking to that song live in concert. "Let It Go" has that nice bounce to it . It possess one ofthose laid back bouncy beats that is good to ride to(in your car...I mean..smile). "Dark" is a very overlooked piece with some nice laid back top notch collective playing from the NPG group

I remembered wanting so bad for LIL MAN to release THE GOLD EXPERIENCE in 94'. I was especially looking forward to the album after he advertised the record to full effect in VIBEmagazine in the summer of 1994. But by the time the COME album came out, there wasn't much time left in 94' and I knew there would be no GOLD EXPERIENCE album.

Still this 94' release is a good record, not exactly a masterpiece, but it has some strong solid moments. Some orgers would probably argue different though.

I gotta say that Come just wouldn't quit for me -- I thought back then that many of Prince's problems stemmed from bad choices on the singles released (not being fully aware of all the crap happening between him and WB at that juncture).

I'd say that there were at least four top tens on that album, and I can still listen to that sucker from Come 2 Orgasm!

I like putting that album on when I'm in a dark & depressed mood. I've always looked at it as P's darkest album (The Black Album never struck me as being dark...that's a party album IMO).

By the way, I hated the newer version of "Dark" on CB. What the hell did he do that for? I'm always gonna choose the version with the real drums.

Really? Actually, I think I'm all alone on my opinion because when Uptown did their huge article on CB, they also ranted about how much better the CB version was!

Nobody agrees with me.cry

I agree with you, totally! I hated the remakes on CB. Well, maybe not hated, but disliked compared to the originals. And what was the point of releasing bootlegs if he was going to modify them anyway, so people would STILL want the original bootlegs? (Did that just make sense??) He should have left those songs alone.

Solo for me is THE song i would play to anyone who disputed his stunning vocals and Pappa , for me , is Prince at his best using lyrics so well to paint such a painful and uncomfortable picture and as for the title track that has tobe one that you can shag to even though it lasts 10 minutes thus allowing time for foreplay, a shag, a hug and a cigarette and a roll over and fall to sleep!!!.

I agree with both of ya'll. The remix is not too bad BUT its also not rythemic like the original, In fact the remix KILLED that rythem.

I think 'Come' has alot of underrated material on it.

Dark and Letitgo<--(got some recognition and air-play) are very good songs...

I agree with Istensek.

But 'Come' definitely suffered as a result of Prince's quite insane criteria that governed whatever songs ended up on that album... I mean, to qualify for inclusion the songs had to have SINGLE WORD TITLES ONLY!!! (hence 'Letitgo', as opposed to 'Let It Go'...), plus the bad blood going on between Prince and WB at that time didn't help his judgement either...

A pity, especially considering the top-notch material that Prince had come up with around that time.

Imagine what that album REALLY would have been like, though, had it featured songs like 'What's My Name' and 'Strays Of The World' (yes, that would have been THE perfect finale for that record...)

I too think that Come is one of his more 'creative' albums like ATWIAD for example.

The Beautiful Experience Video that was aired on UK TV really added to it the videos for Come, Papa and Days of Wild (my favourite version of this song) really stand-out in my head - this sh*t was edgy and funky ;O)

I liked the Come album...
but I thought it could've been better
especially if Prince hadn't been embroiled
in the feud with Warners at the time.
Personally, I think the ultimate configuration
would have been something like this...

1. Come (short Ulysses version)
2. Endorphinmachine (Ulysses version)
3. Space
4. Pheromone
5. Loose
6. Papa
7. Race
8. Zannalee (original version)
9. Dark
10.Dolphin
11.Come (long album version)

Its the DARKEST/EDGIEST LP from the 90's and YES your tracklist woulda been suitable 4 the PERFECT Come LP. BTW 'Lovesign' was originaly written 4 The 'Gold' lp right?? And that 'whats my name' shoulda been the title of the LP.

I was really disappointed with the 'Come' album. Before it came out, there was a rumor that Prince was so pissed at Warners, that he was gonna intentionally make a bad album and hand it to them, just to fulfill his contract. While 'Come' is not a total disaster,it's nothing to write home about, either.

My feeling is,Prince should have shelved this album and instead, handed 'The Gold Album' (as it was called back then) to Warners. It's obvious that he was more excited about 'Gold' anyways. There were some great songs recorded during this period. In the summer of '94,he could have released a kickass CD that looks like this...

The 'Days Of Wild' CD by Prince (release date: summer of '94)---

"Days Of Wild"
"Interactive"
"Endorphinmachine"
"Ripopgodazippa"
"Hide The Bone"
"Acknowledge Me"
"The Most Beautiful Girl In The World"
"Dolphin"
"Acknowledge Me"
"Now"
"Love Sign"
"Shy"
"Billy Jack Bitch"
"I Hate U"
"Gold"

This would have been a stronger, more cohesive album than the uneven 'Come' project. In addition,it may have been a bigger success since one of it's songs ("TMBGITW") was already a huge hit only a few months earlier.By the time the "Gold Experience" CD finally came out in late 1995,the songs were already over a year old and Prince was no longer interested in it.

Prince initially wanted to release Come and Gold (as it was called then) simultaneously. The tracklists for both albums went through many configurations, with some songs swapping between the two albums. At that point the tracklisting looked like this...

1. Come
2. Endorphinmachine
3. Space
4. Pheromone
5. Loose
6. Papa
7. Race
8. Dark
9. Solo
10.Strays Of The World

3. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World
4. Now
5. Acknowledge Me
6. Ripopgodazippa
7. 319
8. Shy
9. Billy Jack Bitch
10.I Hate U
11.Gold

Pap i find really dark, but the rest is just spooky, sexy funk smile
