Revolution in Super Bowl performance?

K. At the end of the Super Bowl commercial, the whole ending to Let's Go Crazy, complete with full band backing, is heard. Any takers on him having the Revolution with him on the biggest stage in the world? It'd be the classiest move he'd ever made, but he hasn't accepted any of my classy offers yet. razz

Personally, I would love it.

On such a HUGE stage as this, he'll definitely make use of musicians he trusts and won't have to worry about. That means that Wendy & Lisa will be there, in all likelihood, along with Sheila. Not sure about the rest of the ol' gang.

Wendy & Lisa co-operated with him at the Brits performance, but I never really get the feeling they are that interested in re-uniting with him. They have their own careers and I think they would rather be seen as more than just some members of his old band, which has obviously dogged them ever since.

Similarly, perhaps I'm wrong, but I imagine the other band members especially Brown Mark as having some sort of animosity towards Prince for being dumped by the wayside. Do you really want a Revolution re-union where everybody secretly hates being there? Besides, Bobby Z, Dr. Fink and Mark would need tons of practice to get back into the tight shape that Prince expects of his bands, are they even still playing music regularly? I doubt it.

As for Shiela E, no doubt she will be there but she was never a member of the Revolution proper anyway.

First of all, I see NO reason or need 4 them 2 be there. Prince is best when he handles all of the guitar, so no need 4 Wendy (or Mike Scott 4 that matter). From the reports I've seen, his current band is tight, and can rock. The only former band members I'd care 2 see/hear, would be Sheila E., Renato, John Blackwell, Michael Bland, Rhonda, Levi, and Matt Fink.

Secondly, I thought that Mark Brown was asked 2 stay, along with Matt Fink, when Prince disbanded The Revolution. It was Mark Brown's choice 2 leave, from what I remember.

I just hope whoever the drummer is, which will likely be Cora, brings some LinnDrum samples with triggers, like John Blackwell did. That will be up 2 Prince, of course, but I hope he does it, 'cause it really adds 2 the power of the drum parts on his classic songs, when performed live.

As I said on another thread...I'd love to see Dr. Fink back! I really miss Prince saying, "Dr.!" and Dr. Fink just going to work on those keys. Seeing that again would make my day!

I saw the Brit performance with Lisa and Wendy and it felt kind of forced to me. Not forced as in they were forced to do it but forced as in they were forcing their way through it. Not really enjoying the moment.

Music should never be forced. If that's what a reunion will bring...I'd rather see Prince and anybody else. shrug

Brown Mark is good to go. He's been playing for a while now, and working on some new projects. Matt also plays on a regular bases with the Truth

I'm with u. It was fantastic during the early to mid 80's. But I rather see Prince with a new lineup. Hell, I don't even want to see Prince play shit from the 80's. Been there, done that. I know he's going to HAVE to during the Super Bowl, but I wish he didn't. Play 3121 and some more recent shit.

I haven't hear anything yet with Cora on drums, but I think the key to the band performance (i.e. not Prince's, but everyone else's) is having killer drums - I'd love to see Michael B or John Blackwell. Given he's recorded with Michael and Sonny recently, and some of the ONA band members have been playing with him recently at 3121, I don't think either of those is too far-fetched (unless JT has an exclusive contract with John Blackwell).

Prince share a world stage with a former band? Think about it. Prince doesn't share toothpaste scum with the cleaning lady.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I see no reason for W&L to be there, it wouldn't change anything. I could see his current band members, Mike Phillips, Sheila E, Maceo and Renato there.

Maceo and Renato have played in on a couple of sets during his most recent 3121 shows fair enough, I would not call them or Shiela E his current band members just yet, they did after all play alongside Cora, Josh and Morris Hayes, who really have been his current band for a while now.

The Revolution was fine back in 85, but he needs to use a combo of his best bandmates.

Shiela E, Wendy/Lisa,Rhonda Smith,John Blackwell,Eric Leeds/Atlanta Bliss,Sonny T, Morris Hayes.and bring Morris and Jerome out for a quick Time snippet and for some showmanship.

Under no circumstances should we see Bobby Z,Dr Fink (although I like him) or the Gameboyz.
