Absolutely. It's a very dark album. It's like taking a trip to the darkest recesses of Prince's mind.

I got Around the World in A Day when I was about 14 or so, and parts of it scared the shit out of me! For some reason, the opening of Condition of the Heart terrified me (I know that sounds crazy), but it just sounds so....desperate (I realize now that is what he what he was going for, but DAMN!) And Temptation: "Oh, silly man, that's not the way it works..." with that scream that sounds like he was being scalded alive? Yikes!

Although it's just a song, "There's others here with us" is by far just scary. not only the music but lyrics expically when he's talking about the parents hearing there dead new born child. It just gives me goosebumps.

it´s an outtake (until this day officially unreleased, but floating around
on various bootlegs) that was on an early version of the Parade album.

it´s spooky as all hell and cannot be compared to anything else he did in
his career before or after imo.

other kinda creepy-eerie songs could well be Annie Christian or Bob George
although I´ve always considered Bob to be more humor than creepy.

I've never heard There's Others Here With Us. What's so creepy about it?

You want a really creepy song? Radiohead's Climbing Up The Walls.

could be cuz the backing track is continuing layered screaming and wailing vocals like some haunted swamp at midnight. Punctuated with crying...

and it's about people being found dead...

"...They swore they heard her laugh in the crib by the wall"

The song's just plain creepy, try listening to it on your own with the lights off. boxed

Funnily enough I've got this on my MP3 playlist right next to 'Teacher, Teacher'...talk about a contrast. lol

Yeah. I heard that Prince actually wrote this in 84. But yeah, that's the REAL Prince. His spookiest album to me, as a whole, is 1999. By far.

I, too am confused by the 1999 mention. A lot of it is filled with uptempo funk jams.

I guess that despite the funk jams, the synths and all other machinations that went into the music gave it a weird feel.

Something in the Water is electrofunk with a very dark texture to it. Automatic gets special mention (IMO) because of the subject matter in the song (the women wailing in pain/delight(?)) during the guitar solo.

The album's actually very cold & harsh.

Even if the subject matter in most of the songs seem typical Prince (sex, temptation, lust, whatever) the heavy use of electronics/weird sound effects/moans etc. make them alot more dissonant/creepy than they would otherwise be.
