A lot of people think that vinyl has a superior sound to CDs. Something to do with the eq dynamic range being larger than that of CDs. Although of course there's dust, fluff and scratches to contend with.

I'd say the 80s vinyls sound much better than their CD equivalents, in my opinion, particularly Sign O The Times, the CD version of which seems very dull sounding by comparison.

There was a new gadget on the Gadget show the other week on tv, a turntable that not only played records but allowed you to directly convert the sound to mp3s, that seemed quite cool!

I bought an Ion USB turntable. It's superb. Connects directly to the PC and I use Audacity to capture the tracks and then enhance them by removing pops/crackles, add more volume, bass, etc.

If you can get your hand on any, Japanese vinyls are the best quality IMHO.

S'about time 'Sign O The Times' got remastered if you ask me. The CD quality just sucks ass.
