"Both Sides Now" by Joni Mitchell (1967/1968?)
...and ice cream castles in the air...

Isn't that a Prince song performed by The Time?

Let's not even get into P-Funk references! wink

Nobody has to create new words to write great texts.

All great artists sure borrow from others.

Ask Buddy GUy about Jimi Hendrix. nana

i dont think that pook is accusing prince of stealing lyrics...just the phrase, "purple rain".

re-read pooks initial statement...there is no judgement or accusation made.

Sorry Pook. redface
I don't know about any one else,
but it's just that for me,
well....
no one has posted any new photos of Britney's pantiless crotch over in Music:Non-Prince or in GD today.

I'm just not myself until I've had my first skank fix of the day.

Did Pook also miss the other lyrics in that same song that caused the most notorious act Prince ever commited?

PurpleJam

I read where Prince actually got the idea to do 'Purple Rain' from watching Bob Seager in concert! I don't know if it is an absolute fact but I know I read it on 'Rolling Stone 500 greatest songs of all-time' list.

I also read awhile back I believe that Hendrix took the whole playing the guitar with his teeth thing from Buddy Guy and many of his other stage moves from various bluesmen from the past.

That was an intentional Joni Mitchell reference.

Those aren't even remotely similar.

I can't say I understand the "Bang A Gong" comparison either.

Keeping with the purple theme...Let's not forget Marvin Gaye's "Purple Snowflakes," a lovely Christmas ditty..."pretty purple snowflakes" I think he could've be high when he wrote that one, but I love it.

This is absurd - You cannot say He TOOK 2 words just because they occur in an other song, otherwise every songwriter in history would be charged with the copyright act.

Rhythm, Yes.
A beat, hook, melody or vocal intonation, Yes
But not just 2 words put together because they are unusual. wink

Black Night, White Light...etc etc
