Z Cult Question; Should Prince Have Performed A Skit On The Prince Show On SNL? The last time Prince was on SNL performing "Fury", and with Tamar, do you think he should have participated in a skit with that cat who does Prince on the "Prince Show"? That shit would have been hella funny. And it would have made Prince look super cool and not so "I'm above this.". Just like when Stevie Wonder appeared on SNL and actually acted in a skit with Eddie Murphy, who always imitated Stevie on the show. To see Eddie, who did a dead on Stevie, and the real Stevie in a scene together was priceless. It showed the humility and sense of humour of Stevie. The first thing I thought of when I learned Prince was going to be on SNL was that skit "The Prince Show". The guy playing Prince is obviously a long time fan of Prince's. He has Prince down pat. When he falls to the floor and does the falsetto, it's as they say "laugh out loud" funny. I dig the cat. Even the Beyonce add on is funny as hell to. They do a good job. I thought "Wouldn't it be cool if Prince participated in the skit?" I thought it would have been even though Prince didn't do it. Just curious, what do you all think? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Yeah, he should've set the 'Sellin' out in 06' precedent a little earlier.

I figured since he did the bit on Sesame Street. To let Bobby tell it, Prince is as funny as Eddie Murphy. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Really? How u figure Prince would be selling out? Did Stevie Wonder sell out when he did it? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

i don't think it would have been his style. if he was uncomfortable with it, it woulda ruined the whole skit. i don't know if prince quite 'gets' that the prince show skits are an homage more than a parody, so i don't see him having a lot of fun doing the skit.

I was hoping he would have done it. It's really cool when you can laugh at yourself. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I like the skits. But having Prince in it would not bring the same sense of humour the comedian brings to it. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

I think it would have been fun to see him in the skit, but when he's speaking live accepting a speech, etc (and not performing) he seems uncomfortable and out of his element. It was a good move not to do the skit.

Yeah, that would have been funny and showed that he still has a sense of humor!

Maybe he thought that the skit was unfunny, like I did. I've seen "The Prince show" a few times and find it painfully unfunny. And I LOVE Mya Rudolph (Minnie Ripperton's daughter).
On the whole, SNL sucks and has sucked for years, 'cept for the Funhouse cartoons. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

But u would think Prince would KNOW it was a homage. I mean, there isn't anything that is on television about Prince that he himself isn't hip to. Either he watches the show, which I bet he does, or somebody in his clique told him about it and he made sure to watch it. Either way, he's seen it. It's so obviously a tribute to Prince's legend. And it's always warmly received by the audience. It would have shocked damn near everyone IF he had participated. I think with clever writing, Prince could have easily handled it. The man is not only an entertainer but is one of the best entertainers in the history of performers. And that's real. This "I'm bashful and shy" shit, I think is a put on. It's nothing bashful or shy about Prince. He's more than capable of clowing around. He's shown that. Granted, I do think he takes himself waaay to seriously, but being a fan of Prince's from the get, I would have loved to seen him do it. For his sakes, cuz I know that would have made him look so cool. Regardless of how funny it or he was. Prince is Prince. Everybody already knows how he comes across. If anybody has been living more than 20 years, they know how Prince is. It could have been very enduring if nothing else. Just my thought process, that's all. On the whole, SNL sucks and has sucked for years, 'cept for the Funhouse cartoons. Really? I like Mya too, with her cute self. But I do think THe Prince Show is funny. Her as Beyonce is off the hook. I even like the theme song of The Prince Show. That shit's catchy! But I do agree that SNL as a whole is has been sorry. Really, since Eddie Murphy left. And that's been a long ass time ago. Although I dug Tracey Morgan and what's that cats name that played in the movie Taxi? He was good. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

to answer the question directly the answer for me is a defintive yes! P and the whole crew could develop a skit that he's comfortable with and would flatter him. We all know he's got a great sense of humour when he wants it to show. Yeah he's uncomfortable in public speaking forums but snl develops skits all week to show. In fact I think it would be good for his highness to laugh at himself. Shit he made me watch the yowl in GB when he challenged the time to a battle. He owes me.

I would like to see Prince doing a comedy skitch, but not about him coz that would be predictable and unoriginal, what would he add already? Nah.
But I agree, Prince can give Eddie Murphy a run for his money as a comic: -That Bryant Gumble impression is just too much. -Who could one 4get Under The Cherry Moon and his "Wrecka Stow" joke? -His ultra-ego personality in Chocolate and The Time's Grace, Cloreen Backon Skin and Do Yourself a Favor. But its obevious that he doesn't want to shed too much light on his comic side, which is understandable too. I wouldn't want to see him doing comedy knowing that he does it JUST for the sake of entertaining his fanbase, first and foremost he should be comfy cozy and happy about what he does b4 he starts doing it.

I kept telling my husband to watch SNL b/c "I bet the 'Prince Show' is coming on and I bet the real Prince will be on it." Then I got dissed.
Prince should have played the old man he played in the "Come On" video.
