The video's awesome. Purple Rain era Prince laying face down in the coffin is hilarious, and those sexy back-up dancers in the tight black pants drive me crazy. And how can you not love Prince in a funky hat and cane doing his little dance moves to the beat? The video's a hilarious parody of his reputation, including him fake playing the sax for all those people wondering whether he can or not.

I thought it was the Purple Rain Prince in the coffin. Ever notice how all the Princes in the video for '7' are all previous incarnations of him?

Hmmmm...I'm so glad for this video. Made me have new respect for the song.

And yes, he was playing his own grieving widow. Never thought that was really relevant until you mentioned it....

hmmm

The costume in the coffin is from the symbol tour - he wore it on both Act 1 and the European tours.

This is an extremely silly and wonderful video.

Damn, really? Prince really seems to have disdain for that era. I guess he really was being pressured more and more by WB that year, since he talked later about how he wasn't free at all when he recorded the album.

or maybe it was the most handy outfit... AND of course the song is ABOUT that time period. you know there was a dispute where WB refused to let prince do some side project (the part about a song about a black child going buck wild but they just laugh at him and he has no case)

Aren't all of the 'Princes' in the 7 video from the D&P/Act One Era?

Maybe Prince has a downer on that period of his career because it was when he signed the 'infamous' contract with WB and became a "$100,000,000" slave!
