I found this highly amusing, as it was when Prince was in his "Interactive" phase, and really becoming involved in the 'net. This particular scene I've never seen before. I love it though!!! I've read in an interview with Matt Groening (it's been a few years since I read it so I really can't remember all the details) that there were discussions of Prince appearing on the Simpsons. I believe that the negotations turned down because Prince wasn't happy with the script of the episode. That's about all I remember. (Little Richard enters the stage)
Homer: Purple Rain!! Little Richard: Shut up! Homer (to Marge): Oh my God, Michael Jackson just told me to shut up!

I also remember an episode where there were some puppies and one of them was called 'the puppy formerly known as Prince'. The name was on a bowl it was eating out of. Might have been the episode where Mr. Burns was going to kill the dogs to make a new coat.
If you've seen it, you'll remember the song Seeeee myyyyy vest, see my vest, made from real gorillas chest... RIP

My fave Simpsons Prince ref. was when Milhouse met a boy from Shelbyville who had the same name & therefor "shared the same pain". As they both walked away hand in hand, Milhouse says "So this is what it sounds like when doves cry".

As they both walked away hand in hand, Milhouse says "So this is what it sounds like when doves cry". i like the one that takes place in the future and the have a list of celebrities that were arrested that day on the TV one was "the artist formerly known as " but yes Prince wrote a parody of "My Name is Prince" called "My Name is Bart" it was recorded but i do not think it ever came out. but it is not hard to find. so repotrs say "my name is bart" was first and prince based MNIP off of that... but listing to the song "bart" seems to make reffrence to PRINCE and to the song... But then again i have not heard it in ages [Edited 12/8/06 19:26pm]

And this (I may be paraphrasing)
Homer--"the year was 1991 the artist formerly known as Prince was known as Prince." My Legacy

I swear I've seen this, but everytime I've seen this episode after, it seems to be cut out. Otto the bus driver was at a concert (can't remember what concert) but he looks down at his shoes and they say (in the same voice as the song) "Don't worry, I won't hurt you, I only want you to have some fun".
Any one else seen this b4?

I love all the Prince references on the show. I'm pretty sure there's a few that haven't been mentioned yet. Groening's sch an obvious lil fanboy. Bless his heart.
Hey Prince! Psst! Isn't it time you did the Simpsons? Pretty please? "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

In one episode of the Simpsons Homer mistakes Little Richard for Prince and shouts at him to sing Purple Rain. I think the episode was called "Special Edna". "Shut Up, Already. DAMMM!!!!!!!"

In one of the Treehouse of Horrors episodes, Bart and Lisa are in a witch's house made out of gingerbread (like Hansel and Gretel) and Homor bites through the walls and says, "Mmmm...sugar walls."

Then when Richard tells him to shut up, Homer whines that Michael Jackson just yelled at him. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I was probably getting it confused with a scene from a different episode Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones.
