I think the highest his falsetto has ever gotten is actually in the song, "High" - when that break comes and he goes "...all I wanna do is get you High, High, High...High, High, High..." Supersonic!

You have got to admit, for a guy whose natural voice is as deep as his, his falsetto is utterly phenominal.

I was playing something for the kids the other night and Prince was talking in his regular voice and they were like, "Who's that talking?" I said Prince. They were shocked.

His vocal range is excellent and he doesn't need a synth to enhance his voice like others out there.

Ok here's the edit. wink

This is so true. It's rare for a man to have such a wide vocal range. I wish I could sing so high.

u too can sing like Prince. u just have to know someone who can kick u in all the right places.nod

I love his falsetto in I Hate U when he sings:

"The act of showing you how good it used to be..."

His falsetto sort of 'oscillates', quivers...

Just one example.

oh GAAAWD, YESSS... heart

His voice was so pretty in concert during "Avalanche" that it took me a minute to realize what the lyrics were about...

I've neva heard no1 complain about his Falsetto. But if there any then they're complaining about HIS WHOLE MUSICAL STYLE which stand on the 'Falsetto'.

The whole of the 1st 2 lps are falsetto, and the best are 'Pink Cashmere' and 'Adore.

It gets on my LAST fucknig nerve when Bilal/Angelo/Maxell copycat his voice rolleyes

BTW XTRUEX---You're funny as hell lol

If I was your (not ur) girlfriend is not falsetto. Its speeded up. It works because of the deep voice speeded up. Falsetto would have sounded like chip and dale.

There are some great falsetto moments, but also so bad ones.

Songs that worked?

Adore (we all agree there)
The One
TMBGITW
Do me baby

but

Imagine these with the deep voice...

When U were mine
Mountains
Rave
Jam of the Year
Pheremone

Now they would rock!

I think songs like "The beautiful Ones" were not better because of the falsetto, but the fact that the screaming was so more powerful, the falsetto helped the build up.

He doesn't throw down anymore like he did in that part of the song!! "Girl you got an ass like I never seen. Yow! And the ride, I say the ride is so smoooth you must be a limousine!". I wish Prince would tear it up again like that. That is some fierce shit.

Sometimes I wish for that, too...but people do change. I still love the man though. For all the changes he's gone through, in my opinion there's still no one better. And that part of the song - raw!! Raw and sexy!! Love it, love it!

This subject reminds me of when I was in high school & there was a discussion amongst a few guys in the gym locker room. They were saying how "Kiss" would be a good song if "Prince wasn't singing it like a woman".

By the way, I went to high school with a bunch of goddamn rednecks.

Talking about Prince in the locker room? Tell your classmates the closet door is wide open, they just have to walk on through!

And Prince sings it the right way.

It seems that I see more people posting about how much they can't stand P's falsetto.

I for one would like to stand up and say that this is the one thing that attracts me most to Prince. His ability ot take the male voice into realms usually held only by women. Each time I hear him hit notes it gives me the chills.

**Do Me Baby-I said Oooh, Oooh, Oooh OOOHHH!!
**When 2 R In Love-(towards the end when he says "Can you hear me" after singing When 2 R in love for the last time.
**Adore-THE WHOLE DAMN SONG!
**Tamborine (at the end when he repeats Tamborine over and over, especially the 2nd to last time he sings it!!)

What falsetto moments touch you?

Obviously and I hate to say it but most of you caucasian people do not understand that the the falsetto has been very popular in the roots or r&b and black gospel music. So for the people who mention that they do not like Prince's falsetto do not understand or know anything about the roots of black music
"Say it Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud!!!" - Brother James Brown

"Make my funk the P-FUNK...I want my funk uncut...." Brother George Clinton

True. And although most non-Black males don't use falsetto, the two that I can think of off the top of my head that I like are Jeff Buckley and John Lennon. Buckley of course only finished one album before his death, and since I don't have his debut album anymore I don't remember if he employed the technique in more than one song ("Last Goodbye"). Lennon..."Baby, You're A Rich Man" is where he uses his falsetto. I can't remember if he ever used it on any other songs with the Beatles or solo.
