I'm quite young, so I've always been into Prince for as long as I remember cos my big bro was obsessed with him..I always remember when my parents were off to work and my brother would be looking after us..I must've been 4 or 5..he'd put Purple Rain the movie, on or the tour video (I can't remember which), and I'd always go nuts when Let's go crazy would come on..I'd never heard an opening like it...'Dearly Beloved...'..so yeah...'Let's go Crazy'

when i was about 15 yrs old i was listening to the radio, and this song came on that i had never heard before, at first i was like who is this doing all of this screaming and yelling on this song.i had never heard anybody scream on a song like that i didn't like the song at first but the more i heard it the more it grew and grew on me. i began to fall inlove with the song until i could not get enough of listening to it.the song was DO ME BABY..MY ALL TIME FAVORITE. so my mother bought the record for me for christmas it came with that poster of prince in the shower .and i was hooked on prince from there on

purple rain ...
my father used to sing that about his relationship with my mom... he was an old man when p was just coming out - so the fact that he paid any attention to that song - made it special... my father died in 1989 but i couldn't let Prince go - he really wrote some amazing music that collided with me... landscapes and dreams baby!! ~Live Free ... Be Wyld~AlwaysOnlyMakeBelieve - LiveUrLyfe... laissez le bon temps rouler...vivre sans être sauvage...हमेशा ही बना विश्वास ~Change and do so CONSTANTLY...

The first one-two punch of 1999/Little Red Corvette got me intrigued and halfway to being a true Prince fan. The second one-two punch of When Doves Cry/Let's Go Crazy sealed the deal for all time.
Although looking back to that era and trying to recall the like/love factor of the songs, I'd have to say Little Red Corvette is the Prince song for me.

The song Purple Rain really left a big impression on me. In the beginning, I was really curious about Prince, so I started by downloading the first songs of his that were available. I remember looking at the song title and thinking, "Purple Rain? What in the hell does that mean?"
The song had me within the first second of hearing that first guitar strum. It was different from anything I'd ever heard. It had this magical, dream-like quality; it was uplifting and therapeutic. It spoke to something deep down inside me and made me feel like I was understood. This is when I knew Prince had something I'd always been looking for in an artist. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

The term "true Prince fan" is something that can be argued endlessly when it comes to me.
It was Computer Blue. I had heard 1999, Little Red Corvette, and DMSR. Then a friend of mine played Computer Blue in his mother's mini-van, and I was blown away. I then saw Purple Rain on VHS the next year, and I was hooked. There's something about the way the song bridges in Computer Blue that makes me all tingly. Well, I get tingly when I hear Jughead too, but that's because I'm passing gas and shit.

When Doves Cry.
this song will always have a special place in my heart. back then all i listened to was rap/R&B and this song opened up a new world for me. Jeez, this is bringing back memories. I remember reading old magazines and was surpised his name really was "Prince" and that he came from Minneapolis. He was so and still is fascinating.

When Doves Cry.
The first time I heard this song, it blew me away musically. I was about 13, and there was nothing on the radio like it. The erotic drums... that beat... I was floored. Even before the words began... that song just grabbed me. I had always "kinda liked" 1999 and Little Red Corvette... but when I realized that the guy singing Doves was the same guy who sang these songs... the "love affair" with the man's music began. Prince's greatest song... in my opinion... is Adore. Even that song took me a few listens to get into and grasp... but When Doves Cry was truly momentous. The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

if any random Prince song came on the radio or a vid came on TV, i was like "ok, his music is kewl"
but listening 2 "I Would Die 4 U" in a clothing store did it 4 me. maybe it was the rhythm that got 2 me, i honestly don't kno. b4 i knu it i found myself going 2 record stores 4 Prince material u cannot tell a lie...it echoes across the moon and the sky...

The video for Cream helped cement my fandom too. Watching it, I just couldn't get over how damn cool the guy was. He just oozed charisma, sexuality, and confidence. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I am 36yo now, the first song that really got stuck in my head and made me go buy the album was "1999" i was like 14 I had already heard Controversy and sexuality and he kinds got my attention with those, but yeh 1999 was the one that kept playing in my head but I am not saying its My fav Prince song, and I dont think I could pick 1 fav as there are so many great ones and I would have varying faves depending on my mood at the time, but the song that made me buy my first Prince album and from then I continue to pay attention was 1999.

Yeh actually my situation wa similiar, 1999 the song then the album really caught my attention but what sealed the deal was Purple Rain album then the movie, When Doves Cry was phenomenal song then and now, I think I can even say one of his absolute best pop songs.

the 1999 album started to suck me in and I was pretty young..and remember listening to "Let's Pretend We're Married"...and this lyric came up:
"I wanna fuck U so bad it hurts, it hurts, it hurts Ooh, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna fuck U Yeah, I wanna, I wanna, ooh, I wanna fuck U Look here martian, I'm not sayin' this just 2 be nasty I sincerely wanna fuck the taste outta your mouth Can U relate?" I was really young and semi freaked out...or just really shocked to hear that kind of blatant cursing/sexuality on an album. After that, it made me go out and explore the rest of Prince's music...a few years later it grew into boot discovery/searching...and that was all she wrote. "Let's Pretend We're Married" sucked me in and the boots made if official and still keep me going.
