I never went to an aftershow, but concert is all fine already.

if it were 1988, i'd say 'aftershow/freestyle'.
since it's not, i'd say 'setlist/concert'. the tamar shows this year felt like aftershows, but there was certainly structure to them. i like that balance. i liked it that he kept the show loose to a small extent.

What ever he's in the mood to do. As I am sure most of you on this site have seen, he can be on fire in a concert and freestyle in the middle when you least expect it and an after show can vary from sizzyling hot to the equipment not working right and having him improvise on some tupper ware. But I agree the 1988 era was HOT!!!

Setlist/Concert Prince. Although he is pretty awesome playing other people's stuff, I prefer to hear him play his own.

I think I'd like to try the combo, thank you. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

You want fries with that? You set me up to be corny-cliche and I fell right into it. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

Aftershows are so different! If you've seen lots of concerts as I have, then you really appreciate the feel of the aftershows. Everbody should try to get to at least one! If I HAD to make a choice at this point, I'd say aftershows. Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.

If I HAD to make a choice at this point, I'd say aftershows. i've personally been to one aftershow, and i've seen/heard a slew of 'em through 'other methods'. i don't really have any favored aftershow recordings, and while i appreciated the one i attended, i'm not really excited about ever seeing or hearing a recording of it. i think you really have to BE THERE to appreciate an aftershow, because it's more about the musicians jamming than it is about experiencing the performance of songs. it's kinda like watching a re-run of a sporting event. if you don't catch it while it's fresh, it doesn't really mean as much.

Yes. | |

Aftershows for sure. Less structure, smaller venue, & Prince just having fun. The only way to see the man.

I've never been to an aftershow
Only seen clips of the one where he sings 'Happy Birthday' to Cat If you will, so will I

I wouldn't disagree with you, Anx, about having to be there. I don't have MANY aftershow recordings that are that great, mainly because of the kind of jamming they do, but I was thinking of actually BEING at one or the other and if you're AT an aftershow, and I've been to several, you can definitely appreciate how different Prince is there and how different the music is! Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.
