All of them up to TGE don't even come close to audio standards in todays market place. I would like to think that at some point in the not-to-distant future a major remastering deal would be struck. Unfortunately for us however, the artist in question is Prince. Still, there may yet come another time where he needs to play the game to bring in the green, so time will tell. We can but hope.

Even the fan 'remastered' versions of 1999/Black/Lovesexy/SOTT that are doing the rounds out there make it glaringly apparent what needs to be done (the fan 'remastered' SOTT is particularly stunning, bringing out stuff buried within the mix even I had never even heard before).

I like to think of remastering in the same way that great artworks are cleaned up - peeling back the layers of dust gathered by time to garner a whole new appreciation of its splendour.

Right, I'm gonna stop now, I'm getting a bit 'wordy' lol

Go compare the title track from the standard release and this other version via headphones at the same levels, then you'll understand exactly my point.

i don't know about any of his albums in particular
but it'd sure be nice to hear a new master of the song "1999"
i mean, that being his biggest played hit 'n all, y'know

Hmm, think of it: "1999 - The New Master"... brilliant!

Perhaps some sort of... 'Purple Medley' could be created, too... razz

All jokes aside, I feel that The Black Album needs it the most. Every time I listen to that cd, I just wanna blow the dust off of it.

R U all referring 2 the vinyl versions or the CD versions?

The vinyl (original) version of SOTT sounds fantastic. The Warners issued CD is terrible, as is 'Parade', '1999' and 'Lovesexy'. All of the vinyl versions sound fine.

What is this "fan remastered" 'SOTT' U R referring 2?

Peace.

When I play TBA at full volume on my headphones, it still sounds more like somebody at the other end of the train carriage is playing it on theirs.

His 80's masterpieces are definitely in a sorry state. Listening to them is like hearing your friend play their fav songs over the telephone. sad
