Look At What I Just Found! It's the original script for the movie Purple Rain. What's funny is that this is the script that has Vanity in the movie instead of Apollonia. I just read on the web that Purple Rain had to be rewritten because the original script was thought to be "too violent".
Check it out, it's an interesting read: http://corky.net/scripts/...eRain.html This probably has been posted before, but I've never seen it mentioned yet, and I wanted to share. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I always thought it was too raunchy, rather than violent. One of the scenes is on the verge of rape. Icky! I'm glad they made it more about music than porn. Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

I think I would've liked that version. It's def. a lot darker, but uhm...I guess I like that kinda stuff.
now go read the original Graffiti Bridge script

*reading the script* um... do all scripts read like fanfiction, or is it just this one? ~Glam, Slam, Thank You, Ma'am. You really made my day~

That is actually not the original. In the original Prince's dad kills both himself and his mother too.
the script is a good read, though. I had this script for years.

Facinating story. But this original version is pretty sad. I think this is a story about the cycles of abuse and how it can affect someone's self esteem and their relationships with other people. I found it very honest and heartfelt but in reality I don't know if they made this version how it would of impacted Prince's career. The movie they made was lighter, more fun with hints of the painful stuff. But I think this script was deeper and had more to say maybe it would have scared away the general public because it is so much more dark and the underlying messages about it are uncomfortably honest.
What I like about this though is it was like Purple Rain was kinda like a person still trying to overcome the fear and trapped feelings of being a victim of abuse and trying to learn how to love yourself so you can open your heart to others. In Graffiti Bridge it's like "The Kid" has moved on from that but now has to deal with the lusts and lures and insecurities in this world that drive you to behave in unhealthy ways and letting the music be used for good and how to become a good person and becoming healthy and happy using your gifts that you were given. That is just what I get from these story lines. I love both of these movies. I think they both are alot deeper than most people give them credit for. Prince is a great artists with honest, interesting messages in work. I know at times he can be really superfical and simple too but it's stuff like this that amazes me.

thanx for that Krystal, Ive only read the first scene so far, and already I think that would have been much better with Vanity, where did you find that?

I've read this script as well. I just can't fathom Apollonia doing this script for PR. I always wondered if the violence of the script indicated the type of relationship Prince had with Vanity on certain levels. Just a thought ...

The 20th Anniversary DVD did not have any deleted scenes much to my dissapointment. Only a documentary about 1st Avenue and about the making of the movie.
I would LOVE to see footage of Vanity in any of the Purple Rain scenes. That would blow my mind. You have to give Appolonia credit, she did a great job filling the role that was intendede for Vanity. "I know I hold you too tight, but I just can't seem to get close enough."

I don't think that they ever got to shoot Vanity. Didn't she quit right before filming was to get started? Did you watch PR with the commentary on? It was very interesting and even funny sometimes. Albert Magnoli mentions the murder-suicide of The Kid's parents and explains why they had to change it.

Child don't I wish it was! lol No it's the director and two other production dudes. They explain the movie, the shots, some of the scenes and they discuss (somewhat) some of the deleted scenes. They also talk about how Prince (and the bigwigs at Warners) were a little conflicted about exactly how much nudity should be in the film. Al Magnoli was even talking about the reasons behind little things like having Prince do some scenes in the house with his shirt off or whatever. They really planned every little detail in the sets, the clothes, down to how many hands they wanted in the foreground during the performance scenes... all that. They talk about why they changed the murder-suicide to just an attempted suicide. And how they weren't sure how audiences would take Morris' "how's the family?" remark. And how Morris was actually supposed to do the "don't forget to bring a girlfriend" scene and Jerome had to do it because Morris had 'disappeared' that day. It really is interesting. Prince did not participate at all in the DVD. It is a shame too but you know he would never participate in anything that relates to "the past." Or have anything to do with Warner Bros.

Ah, I should have known. Wishful thinking, haha. I do know his reluctance regarding such things. Ah, well. Still sounds interesting, I'll watch it with that on next time. Thanks. =) ~Glam, Slam, Thank You, Ma'am. You really made my day~
