Im sure the 2 words Purple Rain were written together in plenty places before Prince wrote the song, but so what, Prince has been around longtime now and has proved he is funky and has his own unique style even if a lot of it has been influenced by various people, this happens with all artists but not all artists work as hard and have the involvement output of work as Prince does. | |

It probably is a coincidence, or at least a subconscious influence. He did not lift it or steal it from another song.
It's only an issue because it is Prince's signature song. The Beatles have a song called "The Word" and no one's saying anything about that. I'm sure there are other songs called With You, Sister, America, Temptation, etc ad nauseum. |
