did you know that most people now think of Prince as a rated "G" legendary pop star, I've had two young people act very surprised when they heard Prince cuss on an older song.

I'd like for him to feel free to if he wants, but I also think he took it way too far at times. Just look at Days of Wild. Too much.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I'd love for him to start cussing again and also sing about sex in graphic detail. The nastier the better.

exactly. beyond changing his old lyrics, i´d say i don´t mind him
not cursing anymore.

he stopped just in time and although i didn´t really agree with,
or understand it at the time, i can see now that he made a good
call on that.

the occasional curse word aside, it really doesn´t serve any
kind of purpose and doesn´t make his songs better anyway.

but, like i said, what i do mind is when he changes his old
lyrics around to be about spirituality and loveliness when,
in all honesty, they were about sex 1st and 4most afterall.

i'd respect him more if he just took a riff from one of his old "nasty" songs and just did an instrumental take, or just sung one of the less nasty verses or something and turned it into a jam. there's nothing wrong with that. his old "dirty" stuff had some great stuff going on musically. repurpose it so people are appreciating the music and not the words. i think godding them up makes it even more distracting.

OMG people, they are just words. This has always bothered me about society. I can't believe how somehow we think words can be evil or wrong. I mean I certainly understand it when it comes to racial slurs but beyond that, a word is a word. most of the people who make such a big deal out of them are christians (which I am too) but these words didn't even exist in Jesus' time. I mean who sat around a table and said this word, that one and that one are bad. Cursing is wrong, but I take cursing to mean hateful, hurtful language. Why is it that in this society we can say whatever we want not matter how cruel or manipulative but as long as we don't use one of six or seven arbitrarily selected words it doesn't matter. It's all about self expression and context. If P is mad and he feels like saying, these are the motherfuckin days of wild, then he should let it out and be real.
And people say well it just sounds so unintelligent, like those are the only words people know, please, how many times do we say the word "the" it doesn't make us unintelligent. No artist or comedian, except for a few that are really bad, has ever walked on stage and said nothing but shit fuck suck my dick. We should stop trippin on words, and start thinking about meaning. We really need to take a minute to reevaluate things when we are so distracted by a word that we can't hear the meaning behind it.

clapping

I will agree that there is a time and place to use certain words, mostly because of respect for the situation or the people involved. I don't think it's appropriate to cuss during your volunteer time at your kid's preschool, for example, or fall up into a funeral yelling, "Oooo! I'm so pissed off that this motherfucker is dead! Shit!!"

Like all words, use the appropriate one at the right time to convey the proper meaning. Each word has a nuance that cannot always be exactly replicated by a synonym. I could say, "I'm really annoyed." That doesn't mean the same thing as "I'm pissed off." And "Gosh golly gee" doesn't mean the same thing as Oh Shit!!!"

As far as Prince is concerned, if he started cussing in concert again, he'd come off as a bit of a hypocrit considering how much attention he's brought to the issue. I'd be a bit surprised at first, but then it wouldn't be the first time the brother's done a 180. I'd just like a little warning so I'd know not to bring the kiddies.
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

u kno it kinda made me mad when i saw videos with prince not cussing. u kno in the ninties he really became in tune with cussin w/ tracks like sexi mutha fucka and gett off jus had me fascinated when i 1st got in2 prince becuz i had never heard him curse before and then here comes the come album with not alot but sufficient amount of cussin (DARK AND LOOSE). then all of a sudden out of nowhere here comes the GOLD EXPERIENCE ALBUM WHER PRINCE IS OFF DA RECORD with tracks like pussy control, and billy jack bitch, endorphinmachine, and 319. then i heard the chaos and disorder album and the emancipation i waz so used 2 the cussin that i waz expectin it. FACE DOWN really had me bumpin.

Then it waz funny cuz i saw this video of prince bac in 98 he was on the jam of the year tour and singin that song and he stops the track (u kno how he does 2 hav fun wit da crowd) and says "Las vegas im gon kick yallz azz!" I waz 2 happy when i heard this so i got the Live in las vegas 2001-2002 expectin more cussin. then i get to watchin it feelin it havin heard no cussin yet but waz esxpectin it, (this happened b4 i found out he was a jehovahs witness) so when he stop in tha middle of THE WORK PT.1 I hear "Las Vegas Im gon kick yallz tailz!" I waz so mad i threw the remote at my tv.

but ive gotten over it now. i would mind an occasional DAMN! or SHIT! every now and then lol

I think it would sound tacky like all his half assed cursing has in the past. Prince should be above pointless cursing. Swearing is for gangsta artists and new metallers not distinguished musicians like Prince biggrin

I'd be fine with it. Some songs just sound silly w/o the cuss words (e.g. we don't give a duck...), he should just not sing it instead of saying that. I'd love hear some "motherfuckin' Days of Wild." headbang Although I could live without "I sincerely want to fuck the taste out of your mouth."

shrug

co sign that, in an early interview about cursing he said "once u say a word enough its not really cursing" its all Larry Grahams fault!

I won't lie, I'd be grinning from ear to ear if he cursed again. That would mean that we would hear songs like Erotic City, Sexy MF, the real Days of Wild, Head and Darling Nikki live again. That's my reasons. By faith, it will happen again. pray

I feel that he should curse if he feels it's necessary to the song's well-being. And I think you should play it for your 5-year-old with the cursing! Why blindfold your child to the real ways of the world? In fact, if everyone would just start cursing more, it would diminish the effect of the word until it is just merely a word again...

I don't really get why he had to change this lyric: there's no cursing, and it's not even dirty. I always took the song to mean that sexuality IS spiritual (and political and just powerful in general). A precursor ro Lovesexy, and more effective in being more ambiguous (somewhat).

The disturbing thing about this lyric change is that it undermines the ideas that drove his best music. Swearing in particular songs was just a device, which is way past it's due date, but Sexuality was a manifesto and revising it is a renunciation.
The beauty of all the previous P evolutions was that the contradictions could be somehow integrated into a warped but somehow cohesive and oddly logical vision. Even the JW conversion fitted nicely for me (if it hadn't come along with all the fundamentalist trappings, altho at times they're amusing and interesting: like the real and virtual doorknocking). But you'd think he'd realize that he doesn't need to erase and rewrite - it could make for a semi-coherent ideological evolution, rather than a dissonance.

I really wouldnt care if he did it in the same way he has in the past, I mean I dont recall Prince ever being nasty or really obnoxious to anyone, so I think when hedid it was all part of entertainment but if he did it just to fit in with a tend or something like Gangsta Rap I would be anoyed.
