He has played some of the songs from Emancipation over the years. Certainly it wasn't the big hit he expected and I'm sure it's association with everything that happened with Mayte can't help. But saying that, there are many albums you could pick on by Prince where he no longer or hardly ever plays tracks from.

i understand the mayte theory. but on the basis of him not playing much from some cds, this one was 3 disks. what a waste, imho, to not play any. dont get me wrong orgers, i still appreciate whatever he should play live.

The association with Mayte and the baby is probably the biggest reason. I don't think many of those songs are "concert" songs anyway.

i specifically remember him starting the show with jam of the year. that was a great start-off at that time. black sweat doesnt seem to be a concert song but he has used it in his sets.

Emancipation is just another Prince album you can add to the list of ones he doesn't play much from. He just has too many damn songs to perform, so it makes sense to mostly go with a mix of his all-time most popular and most recent ones.

Have you seen the most recent '3121 Vegas' tracklists? Check the concert forum reports out. Apart from the occasional Purple Rain/Let's Go Crazy, it is made up of songs from 3121 and an odd selection of non-hits. Hardly playing the same old song hits.

But even if he was, so what? What band does a concert and doesn't play their biggest hits? U2 for example still play songs from 20 years ago, but they don't get the criticism fo it Prince does.

my feeling is that after 20+ years, hes just tired of playing the "80s". but he will always play occational "oldies" in consideration of the newer fans. personally ive seen all the "oldies" and i think he can only mix it up so much. being the forward looking person i am, i always look forward to the new stuff, but never dissin the classic. there are those who just arnt feelin the new. im glad he hasnt lost his skillz. he cant please everybody.

getting back to my original statement-and btw, thanks for all responses-he was making a statement of freedom in his career with this set. now it seems its just all in the past.

I was just listening to still album yesterday like all day. I was thinkin' about how Prince had so much emotion and life, but now he is just Prince. 3121 has little emotion. Plus, I was goin' stone off of Dreaming about U. I just put it on repeat and my mind took off. To bad I didn't write anything. It would have been a great novel. I am clean, nothing pev about what I was thinkin'.

I heard quite a few bootlegs of him playing One Kiss at a Time in the 2000s
if that means anything to you.

I REALLY wish he'd play Sleep Around, Somebody's Somebody, In this Bed I Scream, Jam of the Year, and Face Down, though!!! sad

MAN! I'd love to hear those performed again for ole time's sake
If you will, so will I

For the record, I think The Love We Make would make for a fantastic encore closer.
