Prince is up for 5 Grammy Nominations So it looks like Prince is in the running for 5 Grammy awards this year!
Black Sweat is nominated in the Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song categories. 3121 the song is nominated in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance category. (What does that even mean?) 3121 the album is nominated in the Best R&B Album category. Beautiful Loved and Blessed is nominated for the Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group. Congrats to Prince, and I wish him the best of luck! Here's a link the the Grammy website http://www.grammy.com/GRA.../list.aspx [Edited 12/7/06 10:01am] Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

Did not expect that.
Might breathe a little life back into the album and it would be nice to see him pick up a couple. I think Prince is now in that safe, established elder statesman category that is going to ensure that if he releases an album of even the slightest commercial significance he's going to get a nod or two. 5 is impressive though. Congrats! All good things they say never last...

Woohoo! Congrats to Prince and thanks for the news!

A performance live from 3121 would be smart. Still seems odd he got 5 nods since the album tanked after the #1 debut.

He probably won't win anything sadly enough.

Hey, 3121 best urban / alternative song, that sounds right to me.
I mean, most black artists nowadays dont seem to be very interested in experimentating with sound and production, trying something alternative. But Prince, during big parts his career has always experimentated a lot, and has thereby influenced other black artist as the Jam and Lewis, The Neptunes and Timbaland, who commercialized his sounds and made big money out of it. Alltough i dont consider 3121 his best track in the experimental vein (i mean, tracks like Automatic, Crystal Ball and Shockedelica are far superior to it) if one man should receive a grammy for combining 'urban' sounds with an alternative twist, it should be Prince.

If there is a performance I hope it will be from an upcoming release. 3121 -- letitgo.

Congrats to Prince!!!
And if the Grammy producers want to have any hope of putting on a show that doesn't bore everyone to tears, they need to start begging Prince NOW to perform.

that's great!
i hope that for the grammys, he does a knock-out performance of "Love" and have dancers on rollerskates..i can see it.

Question: Wasn't Satisfied released as a single? I heard this song alot on the local "Quiet Storm" station. I thought this song would be Prince's best chance at a Grammy nom, along with Black Sweat.

grammy loves nobility. i predict he'll win at least one.

I also predict he will one grammy at least.
The grammy jury is quite conservative, giving away prizes in a safe way, trying hard to keep their friends at the record companies. But is that an honour for Prince? not sure about that...

yes it was on the r&b charts around #70 I thought so. At least here (the Bay Area) I heard Satisfied a lot more than BLB.

pleasant surprise
and hey... these are the Grammy's. Any given year its hard to figure are they going to select winners based on popularity or quality of product...? He has been nominated a few times when it wasn't expected and has won... so it isn't to far fetched to believe he may walk away with a couple.

Well whatever he wins, I know for a fact he will not win the urban/alternative category, because he's up against "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, and that song was HUGE this year.

i'm sure he'll win @ least one. the news i read didn't even mention he was being nominated for 5- i had to go on the grammy website and read all the nominations. there's actually alot. like 102 categories. it'll be nice if he did a performance. but i generally don't watch the grammys. "So shall it be written, so shall it be sung..."

Wow! That was unexpected to say the least but it's definitely what I call "still being relevant!"
Congrats, Prince! I hope this means we can get a hot televised Prince performance to warm up a cold winter's night!

i am disappointed he didnt get nominated in the latin category too!!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Is this the most he's been nominated in a year?
He'll win at least one maybe 2. Unfortunately this nixes a chance at new music for awhile longer.

The FACT that someone like Alicia Keys has more Grammies than Prince leaves me with the idea that a Grammy win is sort of meaningless.
