I think "Love" is funky enough (but more for kids and adults, I am not sure all of the teens and tweens would get it).
"The Dance" is what I hope to be next but it may be too grand for the simple (folks). The grown and sexy would be all over it!

3121 is a good album but The Word is a gem. But we can just put it into a category of his gems that the public missed out on.

These teens would get into it. Play it with the volume down and Love up & start appx 2:45 into clip. Of course it doesn't match but you can get an idea. It's current with the kids, teens, tweens and adults in this culture.
Build a story/vid around this and it could be nice. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

I think that the entire album was a gem that the general public missed out on. Look at the different answers on the board. There is some good stuff on 3121. It's a shame that today's music biz/radio is so youth, garbage and cookie cutter oriented. I turn on the radio or television and see/hear the same songs all day long. Everyone looks alike and sounds alike, and for the most part they sound like crap and aren't singing about anything. I've never cared about chart success with Prince's albums. However, I think it is a travesty that 3121 didn't receive more play. It really is a good album. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

There is so much good stuff there, so many diverse themes coming together cohesively... that makes 3121 a successful album in my mind. As long as I know it rocked, it can become another one of my 'Prince secret treasures'. I was hoping it would have elevated our hero to new, unparalleled heights. And I'm sure, he found some way to make view it in that manner. You know why? Because he never gives up! But this one I don't want to be a secret! I want people knowing how great it is, and I want to do something about it. I want another hit on the radio so bad, I can't stand it!!! I haven't added my vote yet, because I'm curious about the public's response. Please get this out to as many people as possible... ...then 'hang on to your wigs'....! Build a story/vid around this and it could be nice. I have to admit that little segment in the middle is my favorite part of 'Love'; it sounds so "Princey"! "aawww shake that thang, c'mon... awwwww bounce it baby," Dee-lish!!! "Plaid shorts are completely over."

The Dance. Not sure it's hit single material, but it's up there with his best work for me and would be my preferred track.

I'd like that as the single, and I'd particularly like an extended version that carried on those funky chants.

I totally understand where you are coming from. Someone asked my sister about 3121 and said it must not be good, because they weren't playing it on the radio. It made my sis cringe! Sometimes I get irritated that other people don't know how great Prince is because they haven't heard some of his best work. Then I'm just like whatever - it's their loss!! No contest, it's gotta be The Word.
I'm not a huge fan of 3121 if i'm honest, The Word is the best song on the album.

ugh! I just erased my original post! :grr:
anyway...long story short.... it seems you gotta pay for play these days and P don't seem willing to pay for play and I don't blame him so...why bother releasing another single. I mean, Fury had the most potential in my mind but....it was like it wasn't even release. One thing I do know....if he releases another single...it should in NO WAY be Lolita! No F'n way man! "not a fan" yeah...ok

my vote is "The Word" "not a fan" yeah...ok

There's really nothing we can do about it. I've e-mailed and written to radio stations about their lack of variety. I've basically stopped listening to radio. I flip by VH1-Soul from time to time, but that's about it. I can't even stomach any of the MTV channels or BET. Ultimately, I agree with Shorty that it is TOTALLY about pay for play these days. I live in Chicago and the major AC Soul/R&B/Urban/whatever they call it station here is V103. They play the same 10 songs all day long. They even play the same dusties over and over. It's as if they only have about 20 new/old artists that they're allowed to play. This is what consolidation has produced - bland, repetitive radio playlists. Prince was so right in his UK speech. There was a time when I could hear Prince, The Police, Rick James, The Isley Brothers, Bob Marley, Gladys Knight, Santana, The Stones, Aretha and Luther all on the same station - and that was in the 1980s!!! However, since the 1990s it has been a downward spiral and this decade is the pits. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

"The Word"
it's not much different on the Christian charts these days -- the current #1 has been at the top of the charts for 9-weeks! #3 has been on the charts for 8 months! a majority of the songs in the top 20 have been around since last Spring. the music industry doesn't have much to offer. support local artists. and get "the word" out! xcuse the pun
